POST 100 by the way... hot topic...

just thinking about the games this weekend has me extremely excited.... Only thing that could make this better would be to play brenham at state.. I'll predict now that the winner of this game wins it all... reasoning behind this..

Freddy v Geneva... freddy wins by one
Geneva v Pine drive... Pine drive by a few
Tyler st. v pine drive... T st. by ten or something like that...

all these teams are right there together... During district lifegate 45'd freddy and geneva while brenham 45'd pine drive and beat Covenant who beat tyler st. ...

teams make huge changes throughout the year so it could turn out to be a great state game just like last year.. but i don't think you're getting those fireworks two years in a row...

ok Seguin how about this: Murray State beat Tennessee Tech who beat Jacksonville State who beat Mississippi who beat Kentucky who beat South Carolina who beat Alabama who MAY beat Auburn; ergo Murray State should be National Champions right.

whatever helps you sleep at night.. by the way nice research...

let me try it this way..

Freddy v Tyler...

Lifegate 45d freddy
Brenham beat a team that beat tyler....

does that make more sense??

again a prediction not say its going to be this way..

just a friendly little jab......sorry i will keep my mouth shut, I forget I'm trying to be as factual with my posts instead of my opinion as it just gets me in trouble and I get told to go get help again.

You need to get home, buddy.

Don't think it really makes a difference, but I can tell you the Tyler St team that Dallas Covenant beat in Wk 0 isn't the one that's playing football right now. Still ..... a lot of tough teams down south.

I'll start with Heritage v. Tyler Street. I would really like to see this game. I believe it will be close and interesting because of the contrast in styles. Heritage is very disciplined on both sides of the ball. On defense they seem to be more of a "bend but not break" unit. Nonetheless they can be very stout and are mostly good tacklers. On offense, I think Heritage will not do anything fancy and will simply try to execute well. They have some size, but are not the quickest team around. They are also not very deep, but do not seem to run out of gas. (The Heritage coaching staff gets a lot of praise and deservedly so - they have 9-10 players and NO SENIORS.) I don't know much about Tyler Street other than they do not have much size. I'm sure they can score, but I'm kind of surprised they didn't put more points up on PD. I know they have speed and based on their scores, appear to have enough of it to play good defense. It's hard to pick a winner here because I just don't know the difference in speed between these two teams. If TS is not significantly faster at the playmaker positions, I will give the nod to Heritage because they can control a game. If TS is so fast that they get out to a quick 3 score lead, I think Heritage would have serious trouble making adjustments and coming back. But since we're making predictions, I'll go with Heritage because I am a south homer.

As for the Brenham/Lifegate game, I think Brenham is the favorite for some good reasons. From what I have seen, here are some of the key matchup problems I see for Lifegate. Against the highest level of opponents (Covenant and Summit), the Brenham QB threw for over 300 yards and I think over 5 TDS each game. And of course they can also run. I'm not sure Lifegate is as two dimensional, which does not matter when you are running through defenses that are not as fast or strong as your key players. However, that leads to issue number two. Brenham seems very deep and fast on defense. They swarm deep in the backfield and do not let very good RBs get going. The PD RB was averaging about 175 yards a game on the ground and he had negative yards rushing against Brenham. Also, they seem to bring the house with some very capable players, none or few of whom are their offensive superstars, or at least they don't seem to always rely on their offensive superstars to make the plays on defense. What a luxury that must be. Last, I think Brenham has a significant advantage on PATs. PATs have already played a role in some of the close playoff games. The one thing I cannot compare and which could play a big role in the outcome of this game is pure physicality. Lifegate can be very physical and if they are significantly more rough and physical than Brenham, they could take this game. I don't think the fact that Lifegatesports' father-in-law and college roommate will be officiating the game will be a big factor at all. That's how I see it. I think Brenham will win, but I will be pulling for our district brothers at Lifegate.

Nice post GSB. From looking at the scores and opponents I think Heritage/TS is a pretty even match up. PD/ Boerne is the main cross reference that I am going with. It's going to be a close game. I think disciplined team football takes away the "skilled" individual player advantage in the playoffs. I gave it to TS by 2, but I haven't seen either team play.

What?!? Might as well throw his mother in there just to make sure.
How awesome it is when Saturday comes and we get to watch our kids play football.
Vicarious living hurts less the morning after the game but it's more expensive!

The only problem with the Geneva/PD cross reference is that against Heritage we had a QB that averaged 250 yds a game passing. Three games into district he had 1200 yards passing and 25 TDs for the year (district and non-district). He was on fire in the Heritage game. He broke his arm and did not play the rest of the season. Without him, we had 70 points against PD early in the 4th and simply could not put it away. I'm kind of surprised TS could not score more. Heritage will win if they can manhandle TS; TS will win if they are significantly faster than Heritage.

As mentioned before, I'm a homer so I will be pulling for Heritage. But I must say it is as much because I think a lot of the Heritage staff and players. Our game against them was our first big varsity district contest and was an unbelievably exciting game and great example outstanding sportsmanship. The Heritage boys seemed to be great kids and I truly think the world of the Heritage coaching staff. Shipman and Kunz are great guys and coaches who I am looking forward to working with and playing against over the next few years.

You forgot the other two refs. My second cousin and a guy from the bar who owes me some money.

And the same goes for Coach Rabon over at Lifegate. Great guy and none of his relatives are refs.

Which reminds me Scott, if my second cousin can't make it, you are going to be calling the game right? Don't worry. I'll be right aside of you on the sidelines and will tell you what to do.

Brenham should be the favorite on paper, but let's go ahead and play the game anyway.

Never can sleep the first night off the rig... brenham isn't helping my cause at all... haha

So GSB, you are saying that Geneva was a better team at game 4 against Freddy then they were at game 11 against PD?

Geneva's first quarterback was a great thrower while their second string was more of a soccer player turned spreadback.. he preferred to run when he was in the game but when number 7 (i believe) got hurt, there was more pressure for him to throw in a passing offense...he is still good at throwing the ball, he just seemed uncomfortable to me.... i wouldn't say he was any less of an athlete, he just had to make decisions that he wasn't having to make earlier in the year... that's what I got out of it at least..

Thanks for your support. Brenham will probably be the most physical team we've played this year by far... We expect nothing but their best on every play.. their kicking game is great on kickoff and PAT's... their offense is well executed... their defense has to be blocked or they'll make the tackle in the backfield... there's a reason they are undefeated... and it hasn't been luck...

I know my guys are ready to show up on saturday and give it everything on every play... hopefully we'll have a ball game on our hands... good luck and see yall saturday... happy thanksgiving

Box, no, I think we were a better team (complete unit) in week 11 than in week 4, but I don't think you can use our games against Heritage and PD as a good comparison. We threw like 50 times and ran less than 10 against Heritage. We had 450 yards and 9 TDs passing and 50 yards and 0 TDs rushing. And our starting QB was on fire. I think all the passing surprised Heritage and maybe at that point in the year, pass defense was not strength for them. We were more balanced against PD, but they also knew going into the game that we passed a lot. PD did a good job on pass defense, and really shut us down late in the game when we had to throw into a stiff wind. On the other hand, we were able to run right up the middle much of the game. I think we ran like 27 times in the PD game, almost entirely between the tackles. I don't think we could have done that against Heritage in week 11.

Looking at these teams, I think our team and PD were very similar in that we had the ability to put up a lot of offense (us through the air and PD mostly on the ground), but struggled on defense against better teams. I think Heritage is a completely different team. I think they are much more solid on defense, but do not have the offensive style that puts up huge numbers or quick strikes against the better teams. They come right at you on offense and pound it with some big boys, throw very occasionally, and look to put the clamps down on defense when the opposing team gets inside the 20. I think this style would have been a problem for PD if they could not score through the air much, and I think it will be a problem for TS if they run a lot. I just don't know what all TS does, but if PD's defense held TS to 58, I think Heritage will hold them to quite a bit less.

BRENHAM has 5 more quarters of football before they become Div.2 Champs.

Or four quarters or less before Brenham's season ends.

Congrats on the confidence, though.

You could be right. Or not.

That's the oddest way to pick a spread. I don't know that I agree with that. I'm looking forward to a hard hitting game tomorrow. We will know what will be when it is, tomorrow at 4.

OK I'll clear it up. 3 quarters tomorrow, 2 quarters in the championship game only because that is the rule. Most of us beleive that the best two teams in Div. 2 are playing each other tomorrow and not in Harker Hights.
