SMHC

Did anyone go to this game? SMHC had a lot of hype going into this season and I actually talked repeat but not a good start. A 27 point favorite going into this game. Did high island look that good or SMHC that bad? Looks like very little defense on their part as well. I know high island has a solid qb... Is that what gave them problems or do they have a spread back as well?

UIL schools aren't no joke. As emery Weiner. Better be prepared if you're just trying to get points for playing public schools. I agree though a lot of hype but they didn't live up to it

I would say in terms of SMHC it's only week one. And, they played a strong team in High Island who should do well in their district. Coach George and I are in the same mind frame. It's not about the wildcard points. Playing tough public school teams make you better for district play when the games really count. I'll take our loss to a top public school in the state such like Calvert. Rather than someone that will not challenge us and make us better in the long run. SMHC will be a team to look out for in DII. First time I've seen them play in person, but there is a reason they're a defending state champ. I like the make up of their team.

As someone who saw SMHC take it to his team last year in the state title game, I can assure you that is a good program. I expect them to bounce back. Great coaching and great kids.

And kudos to them for scheduling tough opponents this early on. My boys get Crowell in a few weeks, a perennial state-title champion/contender in UIL 6-Man. And win or lose, if we can come out of it injury free I think it will do us a lot of good. I agree with the sentiment that it's not about the point value...it's the preparation value playing a high-caliber team like that can give your team.

This was a well played, hard fought game. It's one game for both teams; SMHC will be in the mix when it counts and I'm hoping my team continues to grow and builds off this win. No one should pay attention to point spreads, especially in HS football and especially in opening season games.

Don't read into this game on either side. We still have a lot of season left.
