Tapps favs so far?

I’ll try this again, did decent last week. I’ll say after this weekend we’ll have:

D1
Emory vs Pasadena (will be a great rematch!)

Plano vs Midland

D2
Crowley vs Rockwall

Lucas vs Huntsville

D3
Wichita vs Longview

Freddy vs Missouri City
i dont blame you for picking missouri city. i expected them to handily beat st. joes due to their apparent weakness to the run game as seen in their games against richland springs and baytown christian, for example.

they mustve had some major defensive scheme adjustments/improvements.

Yeah I know little to nothing about both teams. Was just scoreboard watching. Good for them

A lot of errors on Divine Savior’s part. I think 6 fumbles, 3 lost in the first half. Most bad exchanges, except the first where the back was stripped going into the end zone. That and they couldn’t reliably defend the pass.

Covenant score was super surprising over Rockwall . Anyone see what happened there ? Injury to the do everything RB for rockwall or covenant just shut down the run? Covenant has only one playoff loss in these 4 years and that was Lucas last year who threw the ball . Shaping up for some really great semi finals !

I was there it looked like 15 got banged up early for sure. He was def trying to push through so not sure if that forced them to try and pass. What I will say is covenants def played exceptional and can’t take away from that.

Semifinals in D2 next week :

Covenant vs Prestonwood - gimme Covenant by 18 .

Lucas vs Huntsville - gimme Lucas by 12 .

I know nothing about Huntsville other than the scores I’ve seen . Anybody seen them play ? Lucas and Huntsville both played Bryan Allen and both 45ed them .

Let’s Go!

Here we go again. I’ll take,

Midland Trinity over Plano
Pasadena over SA Castle Hills

FW Cov over Prestonwood
Lucas over Huntsville

Wichita over Waco Valor
Freddy over BSJ

I have only seen one of the teams play and that’s Prestonwood North. Here’s my take…Prestonwood has the best athletes and is peaking at the right time. They had Nazarene beat in week 1 (despite being shorthanded due to injuries and playing a bunch of kids who had never played varsity before)…and the coach gave it away. I wasn’t at the Lucas game, but my phone was blowing up with reports that play calling was baffling. They tried really hard to give away their game against Victory. There’s been a common theme where fans keep asking “what are we doing??”

They’re almost at full strength now and some of those first year players are figuring things out. They took it to Nazarene last week. If they hadn’t tried to get cute and just stuck to their game plan, that would have been a 45 in the third quarter. Instead, a couple of unnecessary trick plays turned into INTs and instead of going home early, they found themselves hanging on for dear life. They got the ball back with 1:43 left, an 8 point lead and Nazarene out of TOs, and instead of taking 3 knees and running out the clock, they call a sweep and run it OOB. They were fortunate to get a conversion on 4th or else that could have turned into the biggest choke I’ve ever seen.

I really like what Covenant has done in the past. I assume they have the same coach. That being said, based on results I’ve seen this year, I suspect they are on par with where Nazarene is.

So I see one of two scenarios playing out. If Prestonwood decides to stick with what has gotten them here, I think Prestonwood wins by a couple of TDs. However, I’ve also seen Prestonwood repeatedly change their game plan simply out of anticipation that the defense might try to stop their strengths. Sometimes you gotta just say “this is what we do…stop it if you can.” Unfortunately, I haven’t consistently seen that over the last four years. Last year’s team was good enough to overcome it. I’m not sure about this year’s team.

Peak Prestonwood has the potential to be a top 10 team overall, not just tapps. They have the athletes necessary to do anything.

Common belief for those involved with that school. They’re very impressed with themselves lol
An all time high score in the Henderson Cup standings last year would lead some to believe they’re right. State championship in FB, final four appearance in basketball, top 8 finish in baseball and state runner up in T&F and golf…and that’s just the boys. The girls won state in golf and had one of the top teams in vball and basketball. There’s no shortage of athletes in Prosper.

Oh I know! They also dwarfed a lot of other 1A schools in enrollment before realignment… saw a vball game there where their student section had more people than the opposing teams entire HS.

Not at all denying that they’ve build a great athletic program in a very short time though. No doubt they’ll continue contending for state championships.
