Playoff Rankings!!!

Makes me wonder a little on coach now....baytown d seems to be pretty shutdown. Regardless of offensive passing.... Defense wins championships... Am I wrong here?
I know u are in their district but what am I missing

You're not missing anything. I was merely pointing out the strengths of each team from my perspective, which may not be worth a whole lot. I didn't feel that any teams in our district, us included, were overpowering on defense. In terms of Baytown....Their defense put up some impressive numbers when healthy. We were able to score in the 40's against them, but they were missing one starter on defense against us. Their D-Line is athletic, but I think you can throw against their secondary at times. Their running backs and offensive line are very talented though. #22 had some highlight runs against us for sure. Center #44 is a monster and #12 is a tall target with good hands.
There wasn't a defense in our district that stood out to me this year as being elite. Nothing like what we saw from Geneva the past two seasons. For that reason, I think the top teams in our district could be had on a given day. Until, Coach Arrafutt and his pesky DC Coach Stolle prove me wrong, GSB's defense is still the best and that's what separates them from the rest. Logos was the best defense we saw, but again, Baytown was missing a starter when we played them.
That being said, I think our guys will represent District 3 very well and I was really impressed with the quality of coaching in our district. I don't think the South is going anywhere anytime soon if some of these guys stick around.

Gotcha! Thanks for the explanation. Yea their o-line is pretty talented and can really make some holes running behind that big center! I have seen 22 run and he runs the ball with authority and isn't scared to lower the pads when he needs to. Anxious to see who makes the deeper run in district 3

Saw a well played game between two schools with talent and class. Austin Hill and Harvest played in Waco. It was a match up of two evenly matched teams. No excuses for Austin but they had some injuries to key players which in private school six man as one guy pointed out a few weeks ago can change your whole team. Injuries are part of the game and Austin didn't make excuses they lined up and played hard. Harvest played better than the previous week against Emery. Their offense was very efficient not flashy but methodical. Not sure what it is about this team that I like. They have talent on both sides of the ball but they always seem to be smaller and out matched but they continue to find different ways to win. Harvest and their fans seem to be a tight nit group maybe that's what you get when you are that small. They really seem to be enjoying the moment and they understand the idea of a team concept very well. They have some smart kids who make plays. I could name them but I'll reserve that until after the playoffs no need to do scouting for the remaining teams.

No idea who they will play next but I think both Baytown and FB are bigger in size and numbers. It's like David vs Goliath, Rocky vs Appollo, and all the other underdog sports movies. I think that either District 3 team is better but I will be rooting for Little Harvest. Its the underdog feel good story of a team who was picked to be at the bottom of their district coming out of now where to open some eyes.

High School playoff football is the best.

Thanks DbSmith,

I could not agree more. This Watauga team finds a way to win. Thank you for the compliment about the fans and the team being close. It is a close knit group, and I know it is a cliche, but it is our 12th man.

Last week we found out that Emery was a fine team. They came out to a 19-0 advantage. Harvest tied it up by halftime 19-19. It s like boxing, we got knocked out in the first round, but came back to tie it at half and then go ahead and win it. Forget the record on paper, Emery was, and is, a very good team.

The game with Hill Country was 36-8 through three quarters. They were a well coached team with good players. Harvest played the back ups in the fourth quarter to conserve energy and reduce injury. As we all know the round of "four" will be tougher, and anything can happen. We respect Emery and Hill Country for the effort the gave in our contests. As they say...we will take it one game at a time. We are ready to bring it!!

I think this season and playoffs is proving that TAPPS made a great decision to go with the three division format for sixman. A lot of quality TAPPS games being played.

Anybody watch what happened to our #2 (Midland Trinity) and #3 (Baytown) ranked teams? Big upsets!

I think your wasting your breath, we seem to officially be in the crow-eating/not going to give them bulletin board material time of year. With all the surprises last week I was pumped to hear everyone's insight, but it's been crickets around here! Boerne rolls Logos, Pasadena shocks team it previously lost to by 44, Katy pounds district 1's leading candidate for state, and Watagua fairly easily knocks off HCCS. Add in the crazy weather.. Plenty of story lines there! Come on gang, can't use the turkey-coma excuse yet.. Spill it.

I don't think I have any crow to eat but if I do then so be it. I have had no reason to give out any bulliten board material nor do I have a dog in the fight but I have let it be known I quickly have become a fan of the underdog which in this case means I am pulling for the boys out of Watauga. I don't think they are the best team but I like the way they play. I think that of the teams left Katy has a very tough test against Boerne who seems to be a fine tuned machine and just rolls over anyone and everything in their way which I don't see changing. Boerne wins this one easily.

Pasadena seems to have gotten hot at the right time which is bad news for Harvest. Pasadena has more size and has a very well balanced game with their stud RB and their Stud receiver. Harvest is and has been the smallest team the last few weeks but what can't be measured is character and heart; and that is really the only explanation for them going as deep as they have. Factors against Harvest are numerous: No size, no numbers, no playoff experience, a new coach, guys no one has ever heard of. Its obvious why I am a fan. Fan or not I cant go against my better judgement and think that Pasadena will win this one. Maybe that is some bulletin board material for Harvest.

Boerne vs Pasadena in the championship Boerne will win it all

I dont understand why coaches come on here to talk about this stuff..

??? I don't understand the question. It's a forum. Open to, and intended for discussions and questions. Last year at this time, there were several posts daily - more in the days immediately following each round - from everyone: coaches, parents, interested "others." Mostly deconstructing how good Dallas Covenant was (and Oh, MAN!!! were they good!) week in and week out.

The lack of information this year - especially out of District 3 has been noteworthy. Not good or bad...just different. I don't think there was any ill intent on anyone's part to point that out. If you want to see some interesting posts with coaches interacting with parents and other coaches, you can find them on this site without too much difficulty.

Give me a break, you know there was no malicious intent behind my post. There was a bunch of talk on this site (for once this year) leading up to last weeks games, then very little afterward. All I was doing was prodding yall for some insight on all the great games around the state. I'm not sure what I did to get under your feathers, but clearly I did. I don't understand why your so baffled.

Interesting that in review of several of your posts, you regularly inquire about rule interpretation and appeal to insight from coaches. You can't have it both ways. I personally take more stock in interaction from coaches over fans like myself. Have some turkey and relax.

Time for me to eat crow. While I've become a huge fan of the boys from Harvest I thought and predicted that Pasadena would win. I WAS WRONG. Crow tasting mighty good. Nice job boys. What a fun game that is what six man is all about. Some exciting plays lots of back and forth. Some turnovers good defensive stops at the right time. All in all exactly what you hope you will see in a final 4 game. For the most part a very good game between two well coached and good character teams. I know that one of the Pasadena kids lost his mind and did something that seemed to be very out of character so much so that he got ejected. Hope the kid he hurt is ok and will be able to play next weekend. Would be a big loss for Harvest. Sadly I think that is what he was trying to do is knock out that kid for next weekend. Losing hurts and it seems to hurt worse the further you go. Stakes get higher. I'm sure this will ruffle a few feathers but seemed very obvious of his intentions. Harvest kids stepped up and played very well tonight. I'm not sure if I've given credit where credit is due or over due but Harvest is a very well coached. Congratulations to Coach Myers and his Harvest team. The engine that could that is your team be proud not many people in six man had you guys on the radar. SURPRISE TEAM OF THE YEAR. CONGRATULATIONS.

Some boys when they know they are about to lose, "lose it" to the point of not thinking. I would be very careful making an assumption regarding a young player's intent. The interesting question about this play is why did the coaches have their best player on the field when the game was already in hand, up 10 with 16 seconds left with the ball? Not only that, why would they put it in his hands? Did anyone else cringe when they saw him still on the field before that play ever developed? The player looked to be fine as he got up on his own with thumbs up. Watauga had a well-played 2nd half defensively and made some key stops. Good season for Pasadena...they were also well coached.

I agree I think the Pasadena kid "lost it" and I am giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was out of character. It was not a judgement on his over all character just the one lone play and I tried to justify it by saying that it gets frustrating and losing hurts when the stakes are raised. You are correct I shouldn't make an assumption on his character for that I apologize. The whole Pasadena team played with lots of class throughout with the lone exception. I get it and understand. It was a lapse in judgement and it happens to us all. The Pasadena coaches and fans along with the Harvest coaches and fans were what is best about TAPPS. I also should include players from both teams. I'm sure there was some things on the field that none of us were able to hear but for the most part I saw lots of sportsmanship. District 3 should be very proud of the teams, players, coaches, and supporters that represented them in the playoffs.

I understand the argument that you make regarding why Harvest had certain players on the field that late in the game and that is a question for the coach to answer not me. I probably would have pulled certain kids I agree but easy to second guess coaches. I'm never wrong on a Monday. HA

Congrats to both teams on an outstanding season.

The fans definitely made the game exciting as they got louder as the game went on. It was nice to see so many fans from both teams...it SOUNDED like Friday night football...private 6 man or not!

Wow Championship game week is here. Lots of different story lines. Geneva is as good as advertised they continue to roll. They have destroyed every private school team they have played all year not sure they have played a complete 4 quarters they seem to 45 everyone. They have plenty of play makers on both sides of the ball. Not sure they have any weekness. They were the preseason #1 and its obvious why. Anything less to them I think would be a disappointment. They expected and deserve to be here. The biggest surprise for Geneva is who their opponent is. Not sure it matters to them but I doubt they thought they would be playing Harvest. (Coach Arrufat your chance to chime if you want).

Geneva destroyed Katy who looked good early going up 14-8 with the wind at their back. Once they switched sides Katy could not move the ball against the wind and became a run heavy team which played into the strength against Geneva. #32 for Katy is a player kid runs hard every time. The wind was a factor yes but Geneva would have won the game no matter the weather conditions. Geneva won 60-14 with 8 minutes remaining in the game. Geneva is very well coached and their coach knows how to manage a game and the time.

Rumor has it the unsportsmanlike play on Friday night against Harvest by a Pasadena player may have cost Harvest one of their play makers who might not be able to play in the Championship game. Which would be tragic if that is the case. Pasadena may have impacted the title game with a cheap shot.

Harvest doesn't have the rich football tradition that plenty of the other playoff teams had including Geneva who has been to the title game the past two years. Harvest isn't as deep so if that player is out it will hurt since like a lot of their players he is a significant contributor on both sides of the ball. I'm sure Geneva will be favored to win by 45 which should come as no surprise. Harvest is used to being the underdog. they have been all year and they keep finding a way to compete. They aren't flashy they aren't blowing teams away by 45 but they grind it out and win close games. Harvest needs to find a way to move the ball against a stingy Geneva's defense who is only allowing 18 points per game all year in six man that is crazy numbers. Oh and then Harvest needs to find a way to stop Geneva's multi attack offense which is scoring at will and may have a bump along the way but they find a way to quickly get back on track. All things point to a Geneva win but I like the heart of the Harvest kids. Harvest will need to play a near perfect game to compete. I hope for a great championship game that wont end early. No prediction on my part at least for now but I will before the Title game.

Congratulations to both teams for making to the title game.
