I am new to this sight and would like to understand the ranking system..My question is "how is a team that lost to another, still ranked above them?"
Actually,
this is such a good (loaded) question.
I assure you
there are several
(not me mind you),
that are really holding back their
colorful commentary
in lieu of a longer grace period.

It's just a question I was wondering because I didn't understand how they got ranked.
Join the "not sure I understand it either club".
Stick around.
You'll hear alot more about the rankings.
Hope your team's on top!

You beat May and you will have earned a few more rungs on the ranking ladder. You were given good advice earlier, play the game and let the rankings take care of themselves. They usually do.

In the case you are referring to.........
Savoy beat Gordon, who beat Lometa, who beat Rochelle, who beat Savoy.
See the dilemma?

But who beat who last?...the ratings should be more reflective of the current events ...those losses happened much earlier in the season...the rankings should reflect where a team is currently performing....
It also has to do with your basis at the beginning of the season....if your starting out at 175..you've got to win early an often to move up significantly....if ya start at 310 you can take a few hits and still be over 280...

Have you looked at my ranking for the week? I have savoy ranked higher than Gordon.

The devil is in the details. Savoy had a VERY weak schedule. From this information, you can see that Gordon is the first team in the top-60 they defeated. Gordon played a tougher schedule and competed well in those games.

This is how I interpret the information. Just one person. Some algorithms might place more value in later wins/losses. I already do place more importance on more recent events, but sometimes those older wins or losses pull a team up (or back) with a lot of strength that a narrow win cannot overcome.

This info I pulled is available at http://www.sixmanfootball.com/why_test.php
