6 man History

I am trying to find info on Kildare...I have found that their girls basketball team was on of the best in the state in 1938-40...33-3-1 record beating teams from 5 states in the time frame...very good article on them going to play Ittawambi, Mississippi HS and how they had won a tri-state tourny (TX, LA, AR) by winning all 3 games and scoring 62 points in each game...this is pretty outstanding for 1940 HS girls basketball! Article is in the March 8, 1940 Paris News

headline says "Girls play 196, Lose 10"

Murphy is a cool guy! I seem to recall reading something about LA schools playing Texas schools but I never found scores...same goes for Booker in the panhandle playing Kansas six-man schools in the 40s...saw it mentioned in an article but never found scores for those either

Same here.....

Skimming his book on amazon...he quotes a Judge Saunders...no relation...I think...that Kildare, TX had a great six-man team that was "Texas State Champions" in 1941 and they were invited to and traveled to Sacred Heart, LA six-man team and got beat 26-15.

Kildare is very bleak on lsfn and their first game shown is in 1944. And there are games listed but no score given for games against Greenwood, LA and Mineral Springs, AR in 1944. OBK maybe you can shed some light on these and Kildare

Those were games reported as scheduled in some article I saw in an East Texas paper in the archive. Never found the scores. East Texas papers were worse than West Texas papers about ignoring 6 man schools back then.

I got started back looking for 6 man stuff from the 40's and 50's last night. I started off with Karnack. Very sparse information.

The Brady Standard has a few papers in the Archive now. I found a Mozelle score in the 9/11/1959 issue that had the Mustangs beating Norton 101-0 in the first game that year.

Cotton Dismore...broke his hand in the first half of the 1956 Regional title game against Sidney, got it bandaged up and played the second half...he was what we would call today a spread back...crazy aint it!

A tough guy...I wonder if he's still around? .

Leman, I would still like to purchase two or three copies of the Sidney, Norton game. I have visited with three of the Sidney players who played in that game and they all expressed an interest in having that tape.

Does anybody have the newspaper article for the Oglesby vs Cherokee playoff game in 94? A friend of mine that played in the game was asking if I could find it.
I've looked at the online archives but they don't go back far enough. I'll go through the archives at the library. They are on microfilm and the machine stays broken half the time. I'll try to get it to you in the next few weeks

Well Epler only founder what is know called Portland State University...they have a Hall named after him there...

I found a 2 column article that says "Ephler does it again" talking about six-man baseball. haha

I got them this evening from the gatesville messenger. I just need an email address for whoever wants them.

Ya he did that two...I thought you meant successful things he did ha...6-man baseball was a flop...but is cool to read about and see diagrams of it! I think batting averages would be crazy high!

I sent that guy the article he was asking a few days after he posted he was looking for it...sorry I should have posted that I found it and sent it to him via email (Gatesville article)

Help needed. In 1999, right as football was starting, the Lubbock-Avalanche Journal put out an all century team. I have lost my copy of it, but I am hoping someone has a copy and can get me one. It would be much appreciated.
