6 man History

"Article VII - All players shall wear basketball or tennis shoes. Note: This rule may be nullified by the consent of both coaches in the presence of the officials to allow the use of cleated shoes."

one of Epler's main selling points for six-man was how safe it was/had to be for schools with limited number of kids to play...and making it a rule to use non cleated shoes was part of that safety issue because in his studies of injuries in 11-man football injuries due to cleated shoes was one of the main causes of injury

Murphy is a cool guy! I seem to recall reading something about LA schools playing Texas schools but I never found scores...same goes for Booker in the panhandle playing Kansas six-man schools in the 40s...saw it mentioned in an article but never found scores for those either

He went to college at Colorado, played 8-Man high school in La Jolla, California... went to Country Day where a cousin of mine went (and his mom, my aunt taught).

I was at the game where he torched Texas for over 360 yards... they had no answer

Barrett Murphy is a really cool guy! I can't stress that enough! His book is on amazon and he did tell me about at least 2 games where a Louisiana school played a Texas school...played at Kilgore I think...and one traveled to China, TX in the 1950s and both time the LA school won.

It's funny you posted that today...he held a reading and book signing at the Louisiana Archives today...a big deal since they typically have presentations about big time historical events such as the Battle of New Orleans...

Skimming his book on amazon...he quotes a Judge Saunders...no relation...I think...that Kildare, TX had a great six-man team that was "Texas State Champions" in 1941 and they were invited to and traveled to Sacred Heart, LA six-man team and got beat 26-15.

Kildare is very bleak on lsfn and their first game shown is in 1944. And there are games listed but no score given for games against Greenwood, LA and Mineral Springs, AR in 1944. OBK maybe you can shed some light on these and Kildare
