Rigdon????

The conversation ends tonight . Grayson Rigdon , the best 6man football player of all time . Now he’s in the conversation for best Texas high-school football player of all time .
A great player indeed. Quick bursts, good instincts, etc….
But that’s a little inflated statement especially when his experience in 11 man is 1 year where he played for a team with all kinds of offensive weapons including a QB that’s going to TCU and receivers going to play college ball too. Likely Columbus would be in the same position (state champs) without him, or at the least gone very deep in the playoffs.
Unfortunately you cannot say anything but praise for GR on this page or you get dogged on pretty good and I expect that. But to say he deserves to be in the convo for “best Texas 11 man player of all times” is a stretch for anyone young man that has played for one yr with a great team.

Don't forget Columbus had a great offensive line to open holes for some of those touchdown runs. I can think of two great football players from the state of Texas. One is Jonathan Brooks from 3A DI Hallettsville, a team in Columbus's district, who played for the Texas Longhorns and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers. Another is Kyler Murray, who was 42-0 at Allen High School and led the team to 3 straight state titles.
Played college football at A&M and Oklahoma. He won the Heisman trophy at Oklahoma. He is currently the quarterback of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Murray was 5'10" and about 180 lbs. in his senior year at Allen. Grayson Rigdon is a phenomenal athlete, and I hope he excels in college.
I was hoping he would get another rushing TD to break a 3A rushing touchdowns record.

Well, you’re misquoting me . I didn’t say “best Texas 11 man player of all time” I said , “he’s in the conversation for best Texas high-school football player of all time .” I’m not making a distinction between 6man or 11man . Texas high school football… 4 State Championships, 4x State Game MVPs , 30 TDs in State games. You’ll have a hard time finding a better resume than that . So yes, I think he’s in the discussion.

I saw a graphic saying first player to win 4 state titles...which isnt true...all players on the Ft Hancock teams from 1988-1991 won 4 titles

I saw several graphics that were wrong through out the week every day, this was just one error, their TV team needs a fact checker...On Wednesday one said Rigdon was 45-0 in 3 years in 6man...correct answer is 44-0...one graphics said Jayton played Ft Hancock for state title in 1920...

Yes 44-0 because 2020 Benjamin Mustangs played only 14 games. Alos saw somewhere he had 4 MVPS at state. The Schobel cousins had both.
I think he is 57-1 in his high school career, because he did not play in two games of the games. As far Jayton playing Fort Hancock in 1920, neither team had a football team in 1920. Prior to this year's game Jayton had played in 4 state championship games 1984 against May 1985 against Christoval, 1989 against Fort Hancock, and 2006 against Northside in the first DII championship game. They were 2-2 in those 4 games. Lost to Fort Hancock and Northside. In Fort Hancock's 4 straight state championships they were the only one of the 4 teams that went the full 4 quarters. Actually, had the lead at half but had a key injury along multiples turnovers in the second half.
I digress, because this thread is about Grayson Rigdon and the young man has had a phenomenal high school career.
For his year at Columbus 189 carries 2,270 yds 44 TDS and 18 pass receptions for 216 yds and 3TDS
Also has a 50 yd punt. Not 100% sure on those stats.
That's 12 yds per carry and 162 yds per game

"one graphics said Jayton played Ft Hancock for state title in 1920..." First reading this, thinking in terms of sixman I had to chuckle, as the game was not yet invented. Then sixmanfan2007 notes above neither had a team yet in 1920, even in 11 man I guess.

He technically had four state MVPs. He won defensive and offensive his freshman year. Are you sure you mean 2020 Benjamin? He won at Benjamin in 2022 and 2023.

That may have been wrong, actually. The announcers during the Gordon game on Wednesday stated Rigdon won defensive and offensive.
