They're more like nouns. When his wife uses them as names, commas are no longer required. Maybe hyphens would have been appropriate. But that shows a level of respect. An individual of his repulsive existence will never garner such respect from me.

No one ever "comes to visit Lamesa" unless they are looking for drugs. We are required to pass through the miserable town on our way to Alpine, but we usually feel compelled to wash the slimy stench off by the time we get to Midland.
