D'Hanis - 99 - staying 11man, 6man not even being considered
Leakey - 93 -
Medina - 87
Rocksprings - 72 - have not reach someone who would be able to talk about
Nueces Canyon - ? - believe they voted six-man down in a school board meeting
D'Hanis won't even discuss it. Leaky and Rock Springs said no. Nueces Canyon voted to stay eleven man. Medina votes on it next week.

With 2 schools remaining (Union Hill and Burni) I have spoken with all the 11man DII schools that could be on the Bubble for six-man...

I have this assessment:

Medina, Nueces Canyon, Leakey, and Gorman seem like the only schools that have seriously considered the move, with Medina the most likely to do it, Leakey on the fence, NC voting it down, and Gorman deciding to stay in 11man

The nicest people I have talked with were from: Medina, D'Hanis, and Munday for sure...but for the most part all were pretty nice and respectful about the topic

From watching this dance for the last few years, what I've seen among public schools is that usually, the decision to move from 11-man to 6-man comes down to a couple factors:

1. A few years of 0-10, 1-9 seasons
2. A year or two of not being able to finish seasons due to things like injuries, grades, low numbers
3. A few years of low numbers, 20 or fewer kids for 11-man

Probably Medina and Gilmer Union Hill may be the prime candidates in 2014. Decisions elsewhere probably should start to being made for future years (2015 and beyond).

Of course, I keep saying that the real growth is those "commie pinko" non-football schools ...

Unless the Superintendent at Union Hill has had a change of heart, as long as she is there they will never ever play six-man. I don't know why she has so much pull there but she does.

I was told last year by a different administrator who was in favor of going to 6-man that she would rather Union Hill not be in a football district and play as an outlaw JV 11man team than play 6-man...but you never know as they are one school I havn't talked to yet??? But the lady I did speak did not want to talk about any skuttlebutt about 6-man she laughed when asked and said "I'm not saying nothing about that!"

Was playing with some numbers and made a short list of some schools that could go six man.

D'Hanis
I can understand, they are successful in 11-man, for now. Last 3 years 21-8, including a playoff run last year.

Roby last 3 years 10-17, last winning season 2004, last playoff appearance 2004.

Gorman last 3 years 9-18, last winning season 2008, last playoff appearance 2010.

Leaky last 3 years 3-20, last winning season 1985, last playoff appearance 2007.

Rocksprings last 3 years 13-14, last winning season 2012, last playoff appearance 2012.

Roby would become a basketball only school...of all the schools I talked with they had the strongest We are against that attitude

Didn't Nazareth have that same attitude?

Pride goeth before the fall, I guess. Let's see what happens in a couple more years.

The one that really needs to go to six man is Leaky, last winning season 1985. 18 years of losing. I guess they want to continue their tradition? Yeah, they made the playoffs in 2007, with a 5-5 record and got it handed to them 42-0 in the first round by a mediocre team.
I just don't get some people, they would rather lose than move on up to a game that fits them better.
It's more fun to play, especially for us linemen type.
It's a lot faster paced, more excitement.
Most schools that have made the move have been successful with 1-3 years. It's just a matter of learning the differences of the game and learning that you can't play it like you would an 11 man game. And with the right coach, you can shorten that time by a lot.

Maybe it should be brought to a higher authority.

I have been trying for 3 years to get Leaky to consider sixman. The supe is open minded, the AD told me "not as long as I'm here".
