Coming to Sixman???

My old football coach, the victim of too many pops to the head during his career and consumption of too many corn based products, concluded that saying with " you can't make em lay eggs". He was usually referring to kids who didn't like contact. He made way too many poultry references in his mixed metaphors.

Apparently some think that coming to SixMan would equivalent to "laying an egg"...me thinks they haven't done their homework or they really like those corn products too...11 man can be a seductive mistress...

Unless the Superintendent at Union Hill has had a change of heart, as long as she is there they will never ever play six-man. I don't know why she has so much pull there but she does.

I was told last year by a different administrator who was in favor of going to 6-man that she would rather Union Hill not be in a football district and play as an outlaw JV 11man team than play 6-man...but you never know as they are one school I havn't talked to yet??? But the lady I did speak did not want to talk about any skuttlebutt about 6-man she laughed when asked and said "I'm not saying nothing about that!"
Maybe it should be brought to a higher authority.

You might remind her that Union Hill played 6 man back in the 1950's.

I think another reason why people don't want to move to sixman is because parents think it's going to hurt their sons chances of getting a athletic scholarship. But if you look up recruiting records theirs probably been the same amount of kids taking from sixman as 1a or maybe even 2a. All I know is if good colleges will find you!

The one that really needs to go to six man is Leaky, last winning season 1985. 18 years of losing. I guess they want to continue their tradition? Yeah, they made the playoffs in 2007, with a 5-5 record and got it handed to them 42-0 in the first round by a mediocre team.
I just don't get some people, they would rather lose than move on up to a game that fits them better.
It's more fun to play, especially for us linemen type.
It's a lot faster paced, more excitement.
Most schools that have made the move have been successful with 1-3 years. It's just a matter of learning the differences of the game and learning that you can't play it like you would an 11 man game. And with the right coach, you can shorten that time by a lot.

Couple of thoughts: For places like Leakey and those just west of San Antonio (Medina, Nueces Canyon, Knippa, D'Hanis, Comstock, Tilden McMullen), it may take four or so of those schools coming to the table at the same time.

And if college football scholarships are the concern, I seriously doubt many kids on 0-10 and 1-9 UIL 1A schools are on anybody's list for D1 or D2 offers. Hate to be so blunt about it, but that's the way it is.

OBK - I have done that with several of these school...and it is a good point but people do not care about their history as much as you and I do...while it is a relevant point to us...the people that work at the school who have weight when I comes to decision making time have not lived in that town or been apart of that school system long enough to care about what it was like back then or care one iota about the school/towns past/history. I wish it wasn't like that but believe it.

I understand perfectly. There was quite a bit of resistance at GC to going back to 6 man when they were discussing it back in 2003. And that was with a LOT of old guys around who played 6 man back in the 1950's.

But, they were tired of being on the losing end and I think Hoskins had quipped it was more fun being a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond. Or something like that.

That won over a lot of folks I think.

Scotty Hillger!! You still get on here? CHime in if you do.

I have been trying for 3 years to get Leaky to consider sixman. The supe is open minded, the AD told me "not as long as I'm here".
They told me,
several years ago,
that there's no one around them to play.

Medina will be DI, Leakey and NC would be as well...Knippa would be DII and Prairie Lea would likely still be DII...so unless those petitioned to play up in DI they wouldnt be in Medina's district.

So...who's district will take in Medina do you think???? DI District 9?

I know it isn't public school but it fits with the topic. There is a school in the DFW metroplex that is playing 11-man but numbers really dictate 6-man. The head coach and AD formed a round table discussion with parents to discuss transitioning to six-man and it was met with a resounding NO. "They would rather keep getting beat each week than play that fake game is what was said. Its not even real football." Parents even said that if the school made the move they would go to another school. So needless to say this school has decided to stay the course and hope their fortunes change.

It amazes me how passionate some people are when the thought of six-man comes into play. A lot of ignorance.

Someone quoted that Bronte turned in 89. Is there any chance they will step up and play six man?

Story I was told by my UIL friends was that schools had to tell UIL if they planned to change between 6 man and 11 man football sometime early in November. There are still a good number of 11 man schools with enrollment numbers under 104.9.

I have yet to get Union Hill's snapshot number and doubt I will ever get it from the school...without question the rudest person I have talked with was from there.

Leman, from what I was told by our Supt. was that the lady Supt. in Union Hill didn't want to move. Our coaches said the same.
