6 man History

I never did either. I do know there is a list of all the ole PVIL schools. You can search for it easily.

Also, Somewhere around 1966 or before, the PVIL schools were allowed to join the UIL. So you would have a before and after to look at.

When I see PVIL schools in the papers, a lot of times they don't mention PVIL. You just have to know the school you are looking for.

Like Temple Dunbar. Home of Mean Joe Green was a PVIL school.

Im destroying this newspaper archive today finding all sorts of gems.

Not sure if it has been posted here before but the Fairview up around Vernon, their mascot was The Bears

I think I posted something about that at one time.....

While that might be old news...I have found a ton of new scores and teams that played 6man in 1938, including Stratford. Texline played in a 6man district with New mexico schools. Just about have confirmed every district champion for that year as well. I found a score for a team that was fielded by an Indian reservation that no score existed for. A score for Five-in-one as well

Also 2 high school 6man demonstration games played in late April and early May...but not one word of a Prairie Lea v Martindale exhibition game...

I have been researching the schools who are still in operation in Texas who do not currently field football. The following schools I have records of having fielded a team in the past including the last year I have record that they played: (Although I'm not sure how many played six-man):

Adrian-1945

Bellevue- 1964
Bloomburg- 2013

Cumby Miller Grove- 1941
Dallas Smith- 2010
Dallas Washington Arts Magnet- 1968

Goodrich- 1986
Graford- 1931
Houston Carver- 1962
Houston Jones Futures Academy- 2013
Knippa- 1975
La Rue La Poynor- 1938

Ivanhoe played football, they were the hornets. Search this thread and look back.

Dime box from what i know has never played football and always played basketball. At one time they were the only small school that could ever give Calvert a run for their money. That most likely was few and far between.

Something i found out this year though. Another town that I thought had always played basketball and now is only k-8th. Is Westphalia. I found out this year that their junior high has played 6-man football against Buckholts for quite a few years now.
