6 man History

1973 Hermleigh Cardinals.

It is interesting to look at these old team photos and see how the small West Texas schools were suffering from shrinking enrollment all through the 50's, 60's and 70's. In 1957 Hermleigh had 41 boys out for football. By 1973 they had 14.

see if you can find the 1973 All State Team. They usually published those results around April the following year (so April 1974). I've been striking out with that year...maybe you have better luck.

Spent quite a bit of time yesterday and had no luck finding it either. I saw articles for the 1973 all state teams for all classes except for 6 and 8 man. I'll keep my eye out for this while perusing the archives.

The Brownwood Bulletin (8 Apr 1973) ran an article on both 6-man and 8-Man all state teams. The Original article was from Abilene.

Search criteria - "six-man All State Team"

The archive did have one hit for the 1973 team with the Brownwood paper, but the paper was unavailable yesterday. They are doing server maintenance and a lot of papers were not available for view even though the search had hits for them.

And now, a moment of silence for these old 6 man schools that are no longer in business.

Cool.

Hey there is a great pic of the 1946 Los Fresnos 6-man team in the Nov 19th 1974 edition of the Valley Morning Star. I tried posting it here but it says the board quota is full.
