just about every single small school in the 1920s/30 played basketball, back them you didnt have to have a gym. I know that many school held games out side on gravel courts

Garden City was high class before they built their first Gym. It was on concrete tennis courts.....

My grandmother attended school at Potosi. They were not part of the UIL but they competed each year in baseball and track with Buffalo Gap, Eula, Elmdale, Lawn and maybe one or two others. (Ovalo maybe).

So I noticed today that the Gatesville Messenger and Star forum are now listed on newspapers.com, but you have to have a +Plus account. Not sure what the difference is.

The Snyder papers got into the Archive recently and a few historical gems popped up. This is a photo of the starting lineup for the first Ira 6 man squad in 1954.

It looks like they only played four games that year on an outlaw schedule, as they were all scheduled up for another 11 man season up until late August when it was discovered they would only have 13 boys out for football.

I also found out in a August 1952 article on Borden County's first year to play football that not only was it their first year in football, but it was also the first year for a high school in Gail. Any of you Gail old-timers, is this true? If so, where did Borden County kids go for high school before 1952?
