OK, now back to Texas and the reported woman coach for the Agua Dulce 6 man squad in 1939.

From the 9/13/1939 Laredo Times:

Both Augua Dulce and Ben Bolt are small 11 man schools, FLour Bluff is now known as Corpus Christi Flour Bluff and is a 4A school, and Driscoll is a K-8 school only now.
 
A mention of Jack Pardee in his first year at A&M.

From the 10/2/1953 Odessa American, an article on Southwest Conference Freshman football action the day before:

The "fish" of Texas college and university football opened their
19S3 season this weekend with Temple high school's Doyle Traylor
performing brilliantly before a hometown crowd of 6,500 on behalf
of the Baylor Cubs.

Traylor quarterbacked the Cubs to an early one-touchdown lead that
was matched but never overcome by the Texas yearlings Thursday
night at Temple. The Cubs then added two more touchdowns in the
second half to win, 21 to 7.

At College Station, the Texas A&M Fish romped over the Tarleton
State Plowboys 34 to 0 with another just graduated high school
star, all-stater Robert Keith of Breckenridge's state champion
team of last year the individual star.

The Southern Methodist University Jay-Vees open their season
Thursday afternoon. The Mustang lunior varsity meets the Tyler
junior College Apaches at Tyler.

Keith scored three touchdowns and converted four times for the
A&M Fish Thursday night, and gained 6 yards in 10 carries.
Charles Scott of .Alexandria, La. scored another touchdown for the
Fish and counted 60 yards in 10 carries.

John Pardee, who played six-man football for Christoval, scored the
other Fish touchdown, gaining 97yards in nine carries. Bobby Jack
Lockett and Houston Green of Breckenridge were standouts at
tackles and John Ray of Corpus iChristi and Gene Stallings of Paris
showed well at ends.

The A&M Fish scored once in the first quarter, twice in the second,
once in the third and once in the final period. The Tarleton Plowboys
never threatened.

a quick check reveals that Prairie Hill did play six-man in the 1950s...which would match up if Dixson graduated from Baylor in 1949 as the info states...however that would be FAR from some of the "first Six-Man teams" in Texas seeing how it been here almost 20 years by the 1950s
 
Yes, though you'd hope that the writer of the article would be a little more familiar with Texas football history and 6 man in particular.
 
The other day, I drove past the site of the Dowdy School (Guadalupe Co.) which played six-man up to its closing and assimilation into the Seguin ISD in 1951.

The property is now privately owned and the school building no longer exists. A historical marker marks the location of the school.

However, there is one solitary goal post still on the grounds. Will try to drive by this week and get a picture for the site.

At one time I thought about going to Turnersville and seeing if there were any remains of the old field.

Really need to go during their 5k run (Buffaloe days) and see if I can get the scoop on where the old school and field sat.

I found it when I was cross linking Roy Bedichek, Rodney Kidd, Walter Webb and James Dobie.

All were at UT as professors and/or UIL directors......

Outside of UT......
Bedichek, Webb and Dobie were writers...
Kidd and Webb were known for the Johnson Institue (Webb Owned) and Friday Mountain Ranch(Leased from Webb by Kidd)...

In 1946 they were all at Friday Mountain Ranch, either Kidd running his boys camp or the others were writing.

The interesting part to me is its 28 Miles to Martindale from that ranch. I just couldn't find anything to link any of it together.

I guess I was just looking for info on why they choose martindale and prairie lea.
