Being from Oglesby it's probably a sin for me to say this but I honestly hope Jonesboro wins state!

Why? Are you not the same guy who started the ridiculously unoriginal thread of the UIL playoff system? Guthrie is in no way, shape or form anything closely resembling the number 2 team in state. So much for best against the best huh?Caprock kid":75s9g37f said:You really think they will beat Calvert? Because I have no faith they will but if they do all the power to them because I'm hoping Guthrie makes it to state with a strong running game.
I think this is very true! And I do think this is why the D-1 west is a lot stronger overall than D-1 East. Especially the newer sixman teams in the east. The coaching is just not as strong. I think there are plenty of good athletes in the east, just need the coaching to catch up overall with the west.BE":26kil83g said:Let me add one more thing, and this is the most controversial thing one can say, but it is based on my experience and is honest.
Many times, not always though, when a team loses it is because one coaching staff got out coached. There are two kinds of out coached. One is when the teams are so similar in strength that it could go either way on paper. However, when the game progresses the losing coach makes some poor decisions and a loss results. So he is out coached during the game.
The other is when a coaching staff is out coached, out prepared all year long. Now that team will usually fly through the season winning all or most of their games until they collide with a team who has a superior program. The winning team does something all season, maybe even all year that makes them better than the losing team. Both those situations are examples of one staff being less prepared than another. If you have good players and they give 100% starting with two-a-days, they'll overcome most teams like them. But when they face a better talented team who do the same, they might lose. But take that same team and give them a staff who convinces them to do the summer program and they will overcome that team with more talent. Not every time, but the chances go way up. Do the summer program with a very talented team and they kick the crap out of all opposition. Want some examples? 1999 Gordon, 2004, 2006-2007 RS and probably many others like Strawn and BC and GC. Brett Tyler's Valley teams. My 2012 Follett playoff team and 2013 Follett until we ran into Grandfalls Royalty. And truth be known in both years we were most likely beaten by two teams who prepared all year more than us. I know RS did.
I have been out coached several times. Against Throckmorton in 2004 Danny Davis out coached me, not Jerry. In 2005 Throck beat us and I think our defense could have done better. In 2012 Jerry prepared better than me in the state championship. . He might disagree when I say we prepared better than Grandfalls in 2012, then Helms did a better job than I did in our 2013 semi-finals battle.
