Seems to be some trolling going on here, and maybe a little bitterness...
As a former quarterback some years ago, I very quickly learned a valuable lesson in life; always give credit where credit is due. And I know this, nothing, not a single play, is successful without the big boys up front. Never have I seen a player who could line up 1 on 11, or 1 on 6 as is the case, and single-handedly win a game. Defensively, has there ever been a player who could line up and cover all 6 players? I'm assuming that answer is probably no.
Now then, I know in 6man you can line up in the spread, send guys all over the place, and not necessarily have to block everyone on the field. But I'm also pretty sure someone still has to snap a ball, and then someone else has to take that ball and pitch back to a ball carrier. Still seems to take at least two other players on the team to me. But that argument is moot anyways as Castle Hills doesn't really run the spread. They are at their best in tight formations, allowing defenses to load the box with 3, 4, and even 5 man defensive fronts. The only way to have a successful run game against that many players at the first level, you better have some solid blocking.
From what I saw last night, from about the 2nd quarter on that is exactly what happened.
Dante is an incredibly special football player. To downplay that would be absurd!
However his boys up front deserve a ton of credit too. Those boys from Castle Hills are big (two are beyond big). They are strong. They are physical. And they are scrappy. From that second quarter on #77, #8, #1, and #90 (even their qb and #17, normally only a defensive player had some great blocks) absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage, against Lifegate who is really special along their defensive front. If you don't believe me, I've seen the film. We can watch it together! Honestly, Lifegate had probably the best defensive front CH has seen all year, a huge credit to Lifegate, but the big boys from CH opened holes all night long.
Here is prime example: early on CH ran a good few tosses and such, trying to get Dante on edges in space where he can definitely make plays. Lifegate shut all of that down!
Around the 2nd quarter, especially in the 3rd and 4th, CH began to run right up the gut, straight through A and B gaps. Nothing special, simple "smash mouth" football.
And who did they run behind but big #77 and his buddies up front! #77 was a monster, consistently over powering anyone in front of him. On one play he took #28 from Lifegate (I think the strongest, most physically gifted player up front CH has seen all year) and drove him to the ground like it was nothing. #8 drove out ends all game opening huge holes. #1, not the biggest in stature, but the epitome of a lead blocker, stuck his head in there all night long. On several of those big scoring plays in the second half Dante scored without being touched. Now that doesn't happen in a tight formation, running right up the gut without someone doing the un-glorified work up front. The Ch big boys dominated at the line, allowing Dante second level with a full head of steam. And we all know he is going to do special things when that happens.
CH no doubt has two really special players in #8 and #5. But let's not forget the guys who don't get the glory, who don't score all the points, but do the tough things play in and play out to make this team as a whole successful. They are every bit as much a part of this team as Dante and Ethan, and they deserve just as much credit and recognition. I hope I can be a person who always is able to recognize those who often go unseen behind the scenes and give credit where credit is due, not just on the football field.
Last night was an incredible game to watch. It was physical. It went back and forth, kept you on the edge of your seat. As it goes, one TEAM gets to win, and one has to lose, and last night, Castle Hills came out on top for the second time this year. Congrats to Lifegate on another incredible year. A state semifinal this year, a state title last year, and if I'm not mistaken a state semi-final the year before that as well... Impressive! That kind of consistent success does not happen often! We only hope to be there soon!
