Keepers top teams, results & new rank.

Keeper,

Not complaining here but how does Bryan Allen rank higher than a team that 45'ed them?

I enjoy watching you guy's trying to figure out what only God knows. He has given you some pretty good insight:)

Thanks for your hard work...you may want to kick your machine a few times for BTC.
Did a little research cause you have a very valid point. At the end of week 0 BTC was 45 rating points ahead of Bryan Allen. Since then Bryan has pretty much crushed the spread imagery opponent which has increased their rating every week. My system does not look at past weeks because I feel that a team can get better or worse as the season progresses, so week 0 had a bearing on week 0 ratings, but each week is it's own being, so to speak. And sometimes teams just match up well against certain types of opponents, I think BTC is a good team and will continue to move up as they keep on winning and beating the spread.

That makes sense, and it's a valid way to look at it. Answers my question about DC and Throckmorton too. Thanks.

Once again I fail to comprehend the scoring that goes into the rankings. Every single time we meet or beat the spread, we have minimal or no gains. This week we played the #2 ranked team in their division, as posted by the same ones ranking the teams, and we were picked to win by 8 by one, but to lose by most others. We win by 25 and gain .45 pts. We lose to Calvert, Jonesboro and Tomball and go up double digits. Where is the logic? I'm not looking for a top ten rating, as it's not deserved yet. However, I see teams ahead of us, with worse records, easier schedules, and have seen several of them play and don't comprehend the pecking order. I realize it's all subjective, but I get asked about the rankings every week and I have the same answer; No Clue.

Coach satcher,
Tell those who ask, that the rankings are for fun and its ran by people with no clue.....
This is not the BCS or ranked by AP, or even by coaches.
Now if u go to www.texassixmancoachesassociation.com , there u will find a coaches poll.....

But it's pretty simple..... Just win and you will be playing for a state title..... Then u can say, we r #1.....

But as for now, if I were a coach, the jibber-ish of the rankings is just that and I would be focused on trying to win every game.....

Not sure who's rankings you are referring to, but in MY system, yall went from a 139 rating (#37 in dI) to a 161 rating (#28 in dI) this week.

I was refering to the one on the main page listed as "Rankings". I haven't seen yours yet, but again, we're not a top tier team yet, so I'm not pushing for our team to be moved into a spot they haven't earned. I was more curious of the different formats everyone uses. I can't even get film from all our opponents to game plan, much less know enough to align teams in a ranking. I guess I put too much faith in the credibility of the rankings, being that most have been around 6man for a while, and this is my first year. I enjoy viewing them and was really interested in the process more than the outcome. It gives us something to debate, regardless of those who claim "jiberish".

Ok, I don't know how the main ranking work. But I can tell you how mine work. At the beginning of the year I assign a rating number. This # is derived by taking my final rating of last year, and multiply it by a factor based on info that I get out of Dave Campbells magazine. The factor includes returning starters, returning letterman, how long a coach has been with the team, and a little kick for returning all state players. Then I scale all of the numbers so that the bottom team is at 0, the top is at 250. I cap it at 250 because I feel that if the top team were to play the bottom team, starters the whole time, no mercy rule, that they could win by 250 points. That's my "starting" numbers. After the season starts, its a math thing. The best way to explain it is an example. Team A rated at 150, team B rated at 130 = 20 point spread in favor of team A. Team A wins by 10. Team A under spread by 10, team B over spread by 10. So take that 10 and split it. Move team A down 5 rating points, team B up 5 rating points. Team A new rating is 145, team B new rating is 135, that makes sense cause team A won by 10, and now the new rating reflects that.
Example 2: team A rating 150, team B rating 100. Team A 45 point favorite. (Capped at 45) team A wins by 60 at halftime. (Also capped at 45) so the spread/actual difference is 0. Neither teams rating changes.

One thing my rankings does NOT do is look at strength of schedule, or look at what you did in the past. Reason: a team does not stay at exactly the same level all season, some will get better, some will get worse. Some may get orse, then better. There are a lot of factors that affect a teams performance. Injuries, rivalry games, sometimes a player or team may have an off night, or a career game. Even the weather can affect a game. So I do not let a one game performance 3 weeks ago bias my rating for this week. It is this weeks performance that reflect this weeks rating. If a team is higher than they should be due to a great performance, then when they do not meet the spread next week, next weeks rating will reflect that. I hope this helps explain how it works. I will not expound on others ranking systems because for 1, I don't know their formulas for calculations. And 2) I respect both Granger and Pete for all that they do for the six man world. We all consistently hit 80 to 90 percent of the games, which is pretty good for a game in which 20 points is close game and at times could be less than 2 minutes off the clock. ( I saw 7 TD's last week in 2:37). So in all actuality, I don't rank teams, I merely put the data together, so if a team wants a higher rating, all I can tell you is, beat the spread and move on up.

In my system "My Team is Best, YourTeam" Sucks Rankings", rankings are based solely on how much money you want to invest in the HHR&WPC&SWW Entertainment Fund.........................

The full list after week 5.

Note: There are some spaces that were JV and out of state schools in the list that have played against varsity teams. Used for calculations against varsity teams only. Removed so that I don't get "my varsity team could definitely beat so and so's JV, or my JV beat that JV by 112 and they are ranked higher".

Don't know about you guys, but whenever I think rankings, I think about an old song: Frank Gallup's "The Ballad of Irving," who was the 142nd fastest gun in the west ...

THE BALLAD OF IRVING
Frank Gallop

He was short and fat, and rode out of the West
With a Mogen David on his silver vest.
He was mean and nasty right clear through,
Which was kinda weird, 'cause he was yellow too.

They called him Irving.
Big Irving.
Big, short Irving.
Big, short, fat Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.

He came from the old Bar Mitzvah spread,
With a 10-gallon yarmulke on his head.* [see below]
He always followed his mother's wishes,
Even on the range he used two sets of dishes.

Irving.
Big, fat Irving.
Big sissy Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.

A hundred and forty-one could draw faster than he,
But Irving was looking for one forty-three.

Walked into Sol's Saloon like a man insane,
And ordered three fingers of two cents plain.

Irving.
Big, fat Irving.
Big sport Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.

*****

(The following lines were edited out of the original release, and are only in
the version available on Dr. Demento's 20th Anniversary Collection.)

One day Bad Max happened into town.
His aim was to shoot fat Irving down.
Bad Max said, "Draw, and draw right now!"
And Irving drew, drew a picture of a cow.

Irving.
Big, fat Irving.
Big gunfighter Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.

*****

The James Boys was comin' on a train at first sun,
And the town said, "Irving, we need your gun."
When that train pulled in at the break of dawn,
Irving's gun was there, but Irving was gone.

Irving.
Big, fat Irving.
Big help, Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.

Well, finally Irving got three slugs in the belly.
It was right outside the Frontier Deli.
He was sittin' there twirlin' his gun around,
And butterfingers Irving gunned himself down!

Irving.
Big, fat Irving.
Big dum-dum Irving.
Big dum-dum dead Irving.
The hundred and forty-second fastest gun in the West.
Really.

*The line about the 10-gallon yarmulke was on the original LP, but the single version and subsequent LP pressings substituted the line:
Schlepping a salami and pumpernickel bread.
This substitution was made because the record company felt the joke would be lost on non-Jewish listeners.
