Calvert vs Abbott

I'm anxious to see this game, especially with Abbott having been off for a week. Calvert looks to be in top form again with their new coach.

Both teams have 45'ed all their opponents and not given up a score.
Abbott shut out Austin Hill Country by 45ing.
Calvert has posted two 45ings vs Marshall Christian and Denton Calvary.

I'm looking at Abbott 46 - Calvert 30

After seeing the game I have to say Calvert is one of the favorites to be there in December. They will meet Jonesboro in the playoffs first, then RS. Any one of those three has the team to finish at the top.

Abbott has impressive size and coaching. And they were rolling on the ground early, but the Calvert defense stopped them on fourth down three or four times. Abbott's passing game was a problem for them. Calvert has good speed and quickness and a dangerous passing attack. Every team has its Achilles heal and they are no exception. I saw several Trojans bending over trying to recover on defense late in the first quarter. But it is early and that is remedied easily. Their biggest concern will hurt them versus Jonesboro and after (if they prevail). However, its not for me to elaborate on a team's silver bullets.

I think the biggest problem I saw was Calvert's lack of sideline stimuli. (: (:
They had no music system and no air horn. Whaaat?? Someone needs to step up and fix that asap.

And I would like to mention that during the game and afterwards I heard more "yes sirs and yes mams" from their kids than I can recall since Follett's 2012 team. Very mannerly. Sitting near us were five ex-students from Calvert's 2002 thru 2005 teams, and it was good to visit with them. It was an extremely interesting conversation.

Both teams will be fine this season. It just wasn't Abbott's night.

Thanks for the comments. I wondered what was up with the score on another thread, sound's like Calvert's the real deal and Abbott had an off night. I know it motivates the kids and can intimidate opponents but the older I get the less I appreciate really loud music and air horns. I guess "remedied easily" means wind sprint's till ya puke, then more"?

Its easy to get kids in shape without the old methods our drill sergeant coaches made us suffer through. But it takes courage not to use the old ways.
Truthfully, haven't done many wind sprints since my Cross Country days in Cisco. They waste time and energy and make most players too slow. (:
Everything we did at RS and my HC tenure at Follett was "live Action!" Jerry may operate a little differently now...not sure. We did some suicides (yo-yos) with Tyler's bunch, but it was mainly to break them down mentally, which was rare. They were all naturally pretty tough kids, especially the ones who showed up all summer ( Reference the RS-Rochelle game a few weeks back). You have to realize that at that time our starters were playing two quarters a week if lucky. They were never going to get a good workout on game day until the playoffs, and that would be too late. Tyler played in 13 full games in four years.

So after the real work was done, maybe once every week or so, we beat em up until someone broke. Then they ran suicides until dark-thirty. Then we explained the purpose of the lesson. However, sometime during the 2006 season they figured out what we were doing and it became almost impossible to get one to react to our pressure. Before Tyler Fox graduated we usually didn't have to push too hard to make him snap. All you had to do is stare at him and he flew to pieces. The sophomores hated that about him. Sucker. (:
