man I hate to hear that. Maybe that explains the spread and def lack of speed. Anyone know if Baytown is healthy? How long has those kids been out? If it happened recently then maybe that explains the spread

Veritas has been banged up all season. #2 and #10 went down in the same scrimmage.

If they were banged up in the scrimmage then that would not reflect on this big spread. Hopefully other than those 2 they will be healthy so we get a good look at both teams. If both teams have been healthy since week 1 with their squads they bring Friday night then the spread will play out on the field. Just couldn't wrap my head around that from what I saw in the state game last year

I feel alot of inaccurate predictions about Baytown is based on lack of "brand naming", division, and geography.

That defense has given up possibly 5 first downs in the span of 4 games! Let me repeat:

5 FIRST DOWNS IN 4 GAMES!!!!!

that's not 5 scores. 5 first downs. Had that been your Freddie or Seguin then this board would be lit up with praise of "greatest defense to date". Now I'm not gonna start that conversation yet we have to acknowledge that something special is down here.

As a fan, it's fun to watch. The energy and swagger they carry on the field makes a statement everyone watching well understand. This team wants State!!!!

I don't think the spread has any baring on brand name programs. I think its computer generated. Now of course the bigger schools get more talked about for obvious reasons. Location, Local Paper, News highlights etc...

That will be a great game.

Baytown Christian played Zephyr, Richland Springs and Stephenville Faith? I don’t see any of those teams on their schedule?

Scrimmages. Don't say "that doesn't count as a game"...by play I mean competed on the field of play. Lol

Ok so I did a little research. They did play those teams but it was a scrimmage this year and zephyr and Richland were said to have been missing their best players. That should shed some light on that question

Yet quality teams are still expected to compete at a high level.

A quality six-man team can be turned into an “also-ran” team really quick with the loss of one stud, depending on their depth, which usually with these small D2 teams, is usually pretty shallow. Losing two top players will devastate a team. Just look at the 2017 Richland Springs team. With the loss of Walker Tippy the week before and Tharp at the first of the game, Happy defeated the top-ranked Coyotes in week one. And without them, Richland was just an average team and got forty fived by an above average Milford team in the playoffs.
Just try going through two-a-days and come up to the day before the first scrimmage or game and have your stud spreadback go down in practice. Move your running back or JV spreadback up to Varsity and watch what happens! Disaster! And your defense will suffer as much!

Some 5A and 6A teams can absorb a few losses, but even most of them will also suffer.

Couldn't agree more.. I guess its really about depth at that point. Take any teams top 2 players out and with no depth behind them you will be in a world of hurt. Not just talent wise but most of the time they are the top leaders of the squad which also hurts without them on the field. Even with Veritas losing kids they are 3-1 for a reason so I still expect this to be a very good game. Anxious to see the score post Friday night.
Does tapps not do a game of the week anymore? I know they did last year or the year before. I liked it because you were able to keep up with the game through updates. Have not seen anything like that this year.

My 2 cents.

Veritas is very well coached team that execute! They remind me of Highland Park in 11 man. They could be smaller and slower in some match ups but still out execute an opposing team. I hope we get to play them this year in the playoffs. Go to their website and read their mission statement for their athletes! Gave me goose bumps. I would not discount them even if they have a few injuries. I am not shading Baytown, never seen them play. I do know that Veritas can slow down great athletes. The did it to our #7 in the state game.
I hope I can find some film of this game...... should be a good one.

Go Lions!

Usually the buildups for these types of games is greater than the actual game. That will be the case in this game. Austin will get up early and build on the Momentum- Baytown won’t be able to keep pace mercy rule is my prediction early in 4th. Spreads are usually accurate by week 5.

I will say from what I have seen of Baytown, if all the players are still together for this game, that the spread that is predicted on this site would be accurate only if Veritas is as good as the 2012 Dallas Covenant team that won state that year. Maybe they are.
I just don’t see it happening.

We have heard about the Veritas qb, he seems as if he is a very solid qb. Is the baytown defense stout enough to stand up to the air assault? Looks like they have gave up only 7 points thus far. Not sure how much you can read into that. BVCHEA scored the only td against them. I do not know much about them.

I have seen both teams and Veritas is good, but they are down from their two State Championship runs. From what I’ve seen of Baytown, this team MIGHT be the beat team in TAPPS.

Best team in tapps? That’s a big statement. Their are some very good teams this year in D1 and D2. Even Fredericksburg in D3

I’ve seen film or in person most of the top tier teams in every division (except Bracken). Baytown has 7 or 8 fast, athletic kids that block and tackle as good as anybody I’ve seen including Dallas Lutheran. I could be wrong...but we will know more after Friday night.

Hope they post some max preps highlights on this one!!
Anyone know if there will be a live update on this game? Tapps or through some news media/paper in Austin?
