6 man History

Here are the ones I would be interested in:

Hedley, Savoy, Blackwell, Trent, Patton Springs, Westbrook, Balmorhea, Harrold, Prairie Lea, (Garden City, Sterling City you already have)...

And tell me what all those schools have in common....they are all teams that played 6man in 1938 and are playing 6man this year.

(PS: I am pretty sure your Highland one is off...My Grandmother went there in the 1950s)

And none of them played 6 man exclusively in the intervening 70+ years.

Looks like Balmorhea is now the switcheroo champ, although I bet there are more scores than has been reported in the missing years.

He's some sort of transmission systems specialist. Kind of like a military IT guy.

Most likely thats the same as the old airforce cable dawgs. Outside plant specialists. Large trunk cables, telephone poles, so on so forth:)

Found another jewel perusing the October 10, 1944 edition of the Atlanta (TX) Citizens Journal.

The Kildare Eagles played their first 6 man game against Karnack on October 2 and won 61-6. The article went on to state that the crowd loved the game and everyone was in favor of continuing to play it.

Kildare consolidated with Linden in 1958.

From the April 24, 1941 Mineola Monitor, an article titled "6 Man Football Texas' Fastest Growing Sport", told about 12 new schools coming into 6 man for the 1941 season to make a total of 167. The new schools were: Winona, Hillard, Chandler, Coldsprings, Anderson, Arcadia, Hungerfordd, Ialgo, Agua Dulce, Ben Bolt, Flour Bluff, and Orange Grove.

Kudos to Leman for scanning it.

From what I was informed they still had 1-12. They were merged with Bonham ISD. I am sure that some in the district probably ended up in Fannindel or Dodd City.
