6 man History

There are about 2 or 4 houses in Hobbs, TX and the school is still there, it is used as an "alternative" school for the area. Dowell is a true Ghost town...nothing of it exisits...but a cemetery....

Note - the yardage for Petey's career is off by a little bit...the coaches association has him rushing for 10,468

Also note they name Petey right there with Ken Hall

That Smith guy from Mullin was a beast!

I sent the Gatesville Messenger and email to see if they have any archives pre-1955.

If they do I might be able to find both Ireland Mascots.

If Forsan had not dropped out over eligibility squabbles with the other schools, the Buffs would have won the first and only PSAA championship. As a result of them leaving, Knott (Garner) won the title. The next year the PSAA went under the UIL.

There are quite a few former 6 man schools now up to the 3A, 4A and 5A level, including several state champions.

Katy Tigers state A champs 1959 5A champs 1997, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2012. 6 man 1939-1945
Sweeny Bulldogs, state A champs 1966, 6 man 1939-1946
