Pawnee is part of the Beeville ISD, I believe.

Another subject that comes up occasionally, especially for the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's before the state championships came for small schools is who was the dominant team for each decade. Using an idea that C.H. Underwood did in his book of assigning weighting points to district, bi-district, and regional championships and multiplying these weighting factors by the number of titles in each category, I went through the playoff results for the 1940 to 1969. Since a lot of schools moved in and out of 6 and 8 man a lot from 1958-1969, I included the 8 man playoff results in the data.

Now we have a debate!

I would completely disagree with your teams of the decade...

My personal picks for these would be

1940s Prairie Lea
1950s Nueces Canyon
1960s Oglesby or Marathon
1970s Cherokee
1980s Fort Hancock
1990s Panther Creek
2000s Richland Springs
2010s ????

Do the math. Assign a weighting factor to District, bi-district, regional, QF, SF, and finals games. Multiply and add up. Prairie Lea did not win as many district/bi-district titles as New caney did in the 1940's. The same with Pflugerville in the 1950's(Although I did include the 8 man in 1958/59). Oglesby won a LOT of regional titles in the 1960's, and Marathon outpointed Cherokee in the 1970's despite 1 less state title as they won their district/region regularly in the early 1970's while Cherokee did not. The same applies to Jayton and Fort Hancock in the 1980's. The Fort played quite badly in 11 man before going 6 man a couple of years after Jayton did. If I included the 11 man Class B results in the scoring, Jayton comes out even higher.

Despite never having won a state 6 man title, Christoval finished tied for third with Highland in the 1980's.

I'll run the numbers for the other decades later on, but I seriously doubt anyone will be close to Richland Springs for the 2000's.

In the 1960's Oglesby won district and bi-district 6 times and regional 4 times. Marathon was not even close, winning district 4 times, and bi-district and regional two times. Miles, Strawn, and O'Brien rated higher than Marathon.

In the 1950's there was a 4 point difference between Pflugerville and Nueces Canyon. I included the 8 man data because especially in the first two years of 1958/59, there was a LOT of crossover between the two styles. Heck, in 1957, Pflugerville's district played mostly 6 man in non-district play, 8 man for district, and then 6 man again for the playoffs. Many of the schools in that and other districts played quite a few 6 man games in 1958/59.

If you delete the 8 man data, then Nueces Canyon is top dog, but I seriously doubt NC could have beaten Pflugerville in any kind of football in 1958/59/60/61.

hmmm very nice so ya Marathon out for the 60s Oglesby the no brainer

Cherokee has to be the 70s they played in 4 state game and won 3 of them

And I am just looking at 6-man/8man not considering 11man

Jayton didn't play six-man for 4 years out of the 10 years in the decade of the 80s so no way can they be the team of the decade in my book.

In the 1940's, New Caney barely edged out Lockett with 3 District and Bi-District and one Regional title vs 5 district and 3 bi-district titles. Sterling City and Grandfalls were a close third at 3 district and bi-district titles for SC and 2 district/bidistrict and one regional for GR.

Fort Hancock played 11 man 1981-1983 and it looks like they did not play football at all in 1984-1985, so they had less time in 6 man than Jayton in the 1980's.
