When will we have Football?

The same way it is now. Basketball starts in October with district in late Dec, early Jan. Playoffs start in Feb. and end mid March. Basketball players would be in better shape coming to football than football players are starting basketball. Football overlaps with basketball and basket ball overlaps with baseball and baseball overlaps with track.
I understand you point but think about how the season work now.

I see this as being harder on small schools than large. The uil rules as I understand them is you must have four days of workout in shorts before any contact. So, you start on Jan. 15, first scrimmage around Feb. 1, second scrimmage around Feb 7, your first game will be around Feb 15. That should be about the first week of playoffs in basketball. Most small schools have the same people playing football and basketball. Say you go two rounds deep in basketball, then have your four days in shorts before contact. You might have your team ready to play the third game, with no scrimmages to work out your timing on plays. Its probably doable with lots of problems to iron out on the way.

It is my understanding that UIL has sent a letter to all schools for a vote on changing the 2020-21 football schedule. The proposal is to have Baseball and Track start in August with the Baseball Championships in early November (Maybe late Oct). Then have Football start around Jan 15. The State Championships would be the first week of June.
This is from a coach at a 5A school and he said it would apply to ALL Schools. I did see an article in an Austin paper that some of the Austin area coaches were discussing this idea.
Has anyone heard anything about this. Any thoughts?

That plan was designed by a TAPPS Coach, and the UIL has already said that there has been zero discussion on this on their part. Every coach I’ve talked to thinks it sounds ridiculous.

TAPPS and UIL communicate. I watched an interview with both and they will both follow the same steps with UIL being primarily in the lead. You won't have flipping sports or even start dates without the other one.

So I'm one to put stock in facts and not media hype. So I did a little digging and found the following statistics. I hope this helps you gain perspective on Covid and allows those living in fear to stop. The only fear we should live in is the fear of God's judgment.

As of July 5, 2020:
Texas Covid Confirmed Cases = 195,239
Texas Covid Recovered Cases = 100,843
Texas Unresolved Covid Cases = 94,396

Texas Covid Deaths = 2637
Data through July 5 (185 Days)
Average Daily Texas Covid Death = 2637 / 185 = 14.25 deaths per day

So now let's look at some past numbers for perspective.
TX Department of State Health Sciences - Leading Causes of Death in Selected Years:
1980: Texas Population = 14,229,191
#1 Heart Diseases = 37581 / 365 = 102.96 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.26% of Texas Population
#4 Accidents = 7785 / 365 = 21.33 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.05% of Texas Population
#6 Influenza & Pneumonia = 2580 / 365 = 7.06 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.018% of Texas Population

1990: Texas Population = 16,986,510
#1 Heart Diseases = 39443 / 365 = 108.06 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.23% of Texas Population
#4 Accidents = 6225 / 365 = 17.05 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.036% of Texas Population
#6 Influenza & Pneumonia = 4267 / 365 = 11.69 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.025% of Texas Population

2000: Texas Population = 20,851,820
#Heart Diseases = 42968 / 365 = 117.72 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.20% of Texas Population
#4 Accidents = 7602 / 365 = 20.82 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.036% of Texas Population
#7 Influenza & Pneumonia = 3708 / 365 = 10.16 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.017% of Texas Population

2010: Texas Population = 25,145,561
#1 Heart Diseases = 38096 / 365 = 104.37 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.15% of Texas Population
#4 Accidents = 9133 / 365 = 25.02 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.036% of Texas Population
#10 Influenza & Pneumonia = 3013 / 365 = 8.25 deaths per day. Deaths are 0.011% of Texas Population

2020: Texas Population = 29,000,000
2020 Covid Deaths (2637/185 current days = 14.25 x 365 days) = 5202 = 0.0179% of Texas Population

I have also attached a list of Covid deaths by age group for the US. This data is through June 17 but you will see with the 5-24 age group only 128 have died of Covid in the ENTIRE United States. There are 83,924,830 kids in this age group. So that's a Covid death rate of 0.0001525% I would also suspect they all, or a very large proportion of them, had underlying health issues that led them to get and then die from covid complications.

So in summary, hopefully these numbers help you see that this Covid is nothing greater than Influenza & Pneumonia and even less than a possible tripping accident in your bathroom that kills you.
So, if you are scared of getting sick, then all I can say to you in stop living in fear and put your Trust and Faith in GOD. If you are scared of dying then do exactly the same thing, only God can save you, only he knows how many breaths you have left.

The main thing is quit worrying about it and get back to living life otherwise you will end up in that top category of dying from heart disease.

If you are sick or have underlying health issues then I do suggest you take precautions so you don't exacerbate your current conditions by getting something else. But also put the smokes down, stop eating fast food and get outside for some exercise. Wear a mask, do whatever you need to do to stay alive. The rest of the 99.92% of us would like to get back to our jobs and our lives and play some football.

I just talked to the TAPPS office and they told me there has been no discussion of flipping sports. They told me that I should plan as if sports will start on time as scheduled (obviously everything could change). It's getting awfully late to start making major changes. Having said that, I guess you could move football to the spring but the myriad of issues it would create seem almost overwhelming.

People are free to downplay the media and I get it, scaring people gets ratings. 100% agree. However, Covid-19 should not be taken lightly as it effects every person differently no matter their health or lack thereof. It is downright reckless to not listen to science and everyone should be taken precautions to keep themselves and those around them safe. I would hate for the young men playing six man ball, who will be more than likely asymptomatic, to bring it home to their grandparents or other older family members and have them end up in hospital on a ventilator or worse.

What it comes down too is yes, go about your life but take precautions to make sure you and everyone you come into contact with is as safe as humanly possible. High school athletics here in my school board in Ontario are currently cancelled indefinitely and every other coach that I have spoken too doesn't have a problem with it. Sure we are all disappointed but keeping everyone safe means far more to my staff than another district championship and trip to the provincial finals.

Stay safe everyone! :)

Hey topher800, I appreciate your response. However, No one said it should be taken lightly. Also everything in life effects every person differently. Your kids have a higher chance of dying in a car accident but you still drive them, don't you?. We can't shrink inside and live in fear of "catching" something.

I would ask which science you speak of, please provide verifiable data/sources.

Here is a Dr. from the Hoover Institute at Stanford University who doesn't quite agree with your perspective and actually states the opposite of what you state regarding bringing home infections. So I ask which science are you basing your response from?

https://www.kusi.com/dr-scott-atlas-dis ... officials/
Give a listen especially from about the 7:20 mark to the end?

If you are older or susceptible to catching covid or have underlying health problems, then yes take precautions. By all means!!

So again, based on the numbers there is basically a 0% chance of a player dying from Covid. there's a higher chance of dying from a heart attack or a brain injury from playing in football, yet we don't shut the programs down for those. Sorry I didn't get the attachment to load on the earlier post so here it is now.

The basic science behind beating a pandemic is staying at home/working from home as much as possible, social distancing at all times possible when out of the home, keeping yourself and others safe by wearing a mask and other forms of PPE, avoiding public gatherings, and good hygeine... although I agree with you that young people have a beyond small % of dying. My point is that young people, if infected, can bring it home to their older family members.

The United States continues to see an uptick in cases each and every day because people decided that they were sick of sitting at home and went out to insane protests/to commit wanton destruction/go to the beach/go clubbing/eating out at restarurants, etc., while not social distancing or protecting themselves and the people around them. Texas has roughly 30 million people and over 8500 cases today alone. Canada has 37 million people and less than 200 cases today. Our high school athletics are on the back burner indefinitely. I love six man ball but I'm hoping people in the great state of Texas will prioritize getting numbers down and flattening the curve and then worrying about whether Miami can beat Follett to the D2 - District 1 title this year. ;) After all, six man ball is just a game played by teenagers. There are more important things in life than high school athletics.

#1: How would you know who is going outside if you're social distancing correctly? I have left my house maybe 10 times since all this started, so I wouldn't know who is following the rules and who is not.

#2: The U.S. has more cases than other countries because we test like crazy. Even of the countries that aren't blatantly dishonest with their stats, like China, our media pounded into people and our president that we needed to test as much as possible.

#3: Like you said, no one said anything to the rioters who gathered in huge groups and tore stuff up. I firmly believe this would all be behind us if the government would enforce simple laws in big cities. I'm not ready to blame people who say went to the beach and may very well have followed the guidelines when people are on film not social distancing.

It is obvious that the vast majority of states are not social distancing correctly by the sheer number of positive cases (symptomatic or not). The USA has done a great job with their testing but there is a dramatic difference in positive cases between the US and Canada/Australia/New Zealand where the curve has flattened.

Anyone going out to beaches, clubs/bars, and restaurants especially in places where the virus is rampant needs to rethink their life choices. Watching a live cam from Myrtle Beach on the 4th, I was shocked and saddened to see so many people on the beach. There were packed in like sardines in a can.

I want football as much as everyone else back but not if it means that Texas keeps reporting thousands of cases each day.

To the young Feller quoting statistics from WHERE EVER U.S.A., from Dr. Know,
Closer to Home, KBTX, Bryan College Station:
50% of new cases are from the 18-24 age group,66% are 44 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER.
Just saying...........that’s pretty close to home.
I’ll go back to my earlier question: what is the name of your kid you’re willing to sacrifice?
Not the name of a kid you coach, the NAME OF YOUR KID !

Yes kids get the virus, they just aren't dying from it. Their Symptoms are general asymptomatic to mild in folks <25 years of age.

I think FCSA's point was ... if one Texas high school football player dies from Covid-19, is it worth playing the season? FCSA, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. :)

My point exactly. Thanks
Someone said “its like playing Russian Roulette”.
I can’t disagree with that statement at all.
All deaths are tragedies to families and loved ones,
But it’s especially tragic when it could have been
avoided.
Just saying..........

If one Texas High School Football player dies from Head Injury, Heart Problems (that were unknown), The heat during practice or early season games, is it worth playing? What about all the travel on Thursday and Friday nights. In the past 4 years there have been several bus crashes because some drunk was on the wrong side of the road. Do we stop all travel to games? Just last season my son, who is a high school coach, was on a bus coming home from a game. A parent called and let them know there was a vehicle in the wrong lane! They were lucky they saw the results of the accident. A pickup hit a Semi head on.
Yes the Covid is an issue but we can not put our life on hold. Know I do not have any kids in school, but do have one that coaches. I have grandkids in school and I do not have a fear of them returning to school. I can see the stress they are both dealing with having to be at home 24/7.

You all never provided any of that science you keep speaking of. So to continue to illustrate the point that we have to get back to living Here’s some more science to back up my point that we have to get back to living. And thanks oldergoat, for your last post, You took the words right out of my mouth.
So FCSA and topher800 please read through this report with open eyes.

https://twitchy.com/samj-3930/2020/07/0 ... and-share/

So if one kid commits suicide, or one kid gets abused at home and can’t report it because school is closed, are you willing to sacrifice those kids?
