Tioga Will not be 3a.

I saw this posted a couple times. We are still in the 90's in terms of students in our high school but we are expected to jump from 1a (6 man) to 2a.

My UIL friends may have to correct me, but isn't realignment based on enrollment numbers from October of this year for the 2016-2018 cycle.

And for 1A (sixman) there are several ways to compute the number.

1A cut off is 104.9 and below. As of Friday, Tioga had 108 in H.S. (108 number from KTEN Interview - below)

As I understand it, if the average H.S. attendance in October is above 104.9 then Tioga should move to 2A Division II for next year.

Right now there are roughly 27 students per H.S. Grade level. From 5th Grade down they are averaging over 50 to 60 students per grade. If the trend continues, Tioga will see 3A in no time.

Keep an eye on Tioga!

Here are the UIL Alignment numbers:

KTEN Interview mentioning 108 students in H.S.

Not that this will make any difference in the long run, average daily attendance is not used by the UIL in placing schools in divisions. It is a one day snapshot of enrollment on a specific day in October. It doesn't matter whether all of the kids are in actual attendance on that day.

Here's what the UIL says: Schools with an enrollment of 104.9 or lower may choose to participate in
Conference A football (six-man football)or may opt to play in Conference AAfootball(eleven-man football) but remain in Conference A for other applicable activities(see #6below). Schools desiringto participate in Conference A may submit enrollment figures by any one of the following combinations of grades: grades 9, 10, 11 and 12; grades 8, 9, 10 and 11; grades 7, 8, 9 and 10; or grades 9 and 10 doubled

The field seems like it was built for 11 man. Lot of extra space on the south end zone. Where did you see those highlights?

They showed maybe 3 plays on high school scoreboard foxsports,Craig Way and co.
Looked on tv as a 6man field with trucks and fence huggers next to the field.

i'm not sure on high school but I have a connection with a grade school family and their classes have around 50 students in them. they do have a good high school team this year and hope they go a long ways maybe even to Abilene.

The field was built with expansion to 11 man in mind. I joined the school board in 2009 and we had 129 students in K-8. We have 477 students in prek-12 right now, but fully expect continued growth over the next few years. Tioga HS has been designated by the state as an Early College HS for 2015-2016 and our program offers students up to 60 hours of college credit upon graduation. As we're the only HS with this designation in this area it's a strong possibility we will be a small 3a in 5 years or so.

From an article in the WF Times Record News - http://www.timesrecordnews.com/sports/c ... e_84069488

Patton stated Currently the high school enrollment is 105. The last time UIL aligned the school districts, 104.5 was the cutoff to play six-man football.

“That jump from six-man to 11-man is coming,” Patton said. “Hopefully we will get to play six-man for two more years, but even if we do, the realignment two years later will put us in 2A.”

Patton plans to start next year’s junior high classes playing 11-man to prepare for the future regardless of which classification the high school team falls into.

If those numbers are correct, Tioga will still have a choice this year of playing sixman another two years. Grades 8 through 11 add up to 100. There is even a little room to spare.
