Geneva will be playing 6 man next year ... and if numbers allow, at least one or two more realignment cycles (2014-16,2016-18).

Story I hear is Covenant would like to make it in 6 man for at least one more realignment cycle (2014-16).

TAPPS allows the larger sixman schools to choose between 6 and 11 man. Current limit is 77 boys and under, but that number can move every two years. The sixman top number is usually near the top number for Div. 3 11 man (smallest 11 man classification).

77 boys. Wow you could have 200 kids in high school and still be playing 6man. That's kinda of rediculous especially when our cutoff in UIL this past alignment 99.5 kids in high school not just boys.

Yes, they only count the boys. Makes good sense. UIL would do well to follow suit.

Well, problem is that TAPPS specifically restricts football to boys only. Other reason that is given for the larger number is that some private schools fluctuate so much in enrollment ... you can be floating around a boys/girls enrollment of 90 one cycle and 110 the next. While making the move from 1A/2A/3A (which in TAPPS covers schools under 200 or so) in most sports isn't a problem (basketball, volleyball, etc.) playing ping-pong between 6 and 11 man football can kill your program at either level.

Also, specifically this last cycle, I understand that the one school with 77 boys graduated about 30 of them at the end of the 2011-2012 school year, bringing up only 8-10 boys in the new 9th grade class in 2012-2013; so they are probably closer to 47-55 boys this year.

I think UIL can't have such a restriction, as girls are eligible for football.

Yes they are. And I have such a problem with that. Little Suzie wants to play football so we gotta let her. But little Johnny wants to play volleyball, "sorry Johnny, volleyball is for girls only." How about we try this...... Count the boys and add 1 just in case a girl wants to play. Any girls out there playing UIL on a varsity level? I would bet it's less than 5 total in all of UIL 6 man.

Hey, who around here ever said life is fair?

Just switch Borden Co. with Water Valley. Grand Falls should win again playing low ranked teams all season. Bet they wont play anybody in a top 15.
