Borden County has been blessed with a family that had 3 boys that could kick. It was a true weapon. We also had a young man in the 2009 state game kick about a 30 to 32 yard field goal to end the half. Ironically earlier in the year, in a game that was lopsided we elected to attempt a field goal instead of running more offensive plays. It was a right hash kick and we sold it as this could be a weapon we need in a huge game, this kick was from 34 yards and he nailed it from the right hash. Fast forward, kick to end the half and give us a 12 to 8 lead over Highland was a right hash kick.
The oldest of the 3 brothers that kicked for us from 2015 to 2020 seasons, actually kicked for tech one spring and made a 46 yard field goal in a scrimmage. They were in a transition of coaches and the outgoing coach had recruited 2 kickers so the two young men that kicked during spring were told they were more than welcome to try out and be a walk-on but they were going to honor the two incoming guys. Our kid was trying to get into law school so he opted to just go back to his studies and finish up undergrad and go to law school.
Anyway, sorry for the long reply. That family and the 2009 kicker were very instrumental in helping us be successful overall. All three brothers have hit multiple field goals for us. GOOD TIMES!!!! I'M GETTING OLD.
