Field Goal

Menard's kicker hit a 31-yarder in Week 1 that would have been good from 45 yards. He was consistently hitting them from midfield in warm-ups that evening.

A great kicker is an underrated asset!

Best way to get that college football scholarship too. Get to kick the football and take less of a beating in practice.

Back in the early 70's, Highland had a kicker by the name of Raymond Reyes that drop-kicked extra points accurately. Is that still legal?
Yes it is sill legal, and from a coach's standpoint, I would love for a kid to be able to drop kick. It allows for another guy on the line to help block. It just something kids have a hard time getting down, so it ends up being too inconsistent.

In the fall of ‘23, my son’s team had a kicker who was more than capable of 50 yard FGs. He was only used for kickoffs and XP. In the state semifinal, we had a perfect opportunity to kick a 30 yarder right before the half and it was almost like our coach didn’t know you could kick FGs. We went for it and almost threw a pick six (defender dropped an easy pick). At times, it felt like the coach intentionally made the dumbest decisions just to keep games close. My son graduated but I still follow the team and he’s still doing it. Almost every game he does something that makes absolutely no sense.

That kicker transferred to a 6A HS. Can’t say I blame him. If your goal is to be seen, you’ve gotta have opportunities.
