Every Richland Springs Loss Since 1994

I've had a strange week and spent most of it away from this place. When the scores came in, I believe the biggest surprise had to be the fact that Richland Springs, the most dominant six-man team in recent history was 45'd by Milford.

The first question that came to mind was how long has it been since this had happened? I think OBK answered that pretty quick with the 1999 Panther Creek loss in week 8, 68-20. (update: actually 2009 70-22 loss to Strawn)

Late tonight I couldn't sleep and starting thinking how many total losses has Richland Springs had since I started doing this? Well, I started in 1993, but for some reason do not have that first year of data close by (or in the stupid database), so I went with since 1994.

40 losses. since 1994. (updated)

Let that sink in a little.

That's 39 losses over 24 seasons. Incredible. It is especially incredible if you consider that 26 came by the time 2000 rolled around. That leaves only 13 losses in the past 17 seasons.

Let's see who has done that damage:
Strawn 6
Panther Creek 4
Zephyr 4
Calvert 3
Cherokee 4 (updated)
Gordon 3
Milford 3
Mullin 3
Blanket 2
Borden County 1
Happy 1
Lohn 1
May 1
Moran 1
Sidney 1
Throckmorton 1
Whitharral 1

How many times in the 24 years have they been 45'd? 5 times!

How many of those were playoff losses? 13

I do not intend this to be a dig at Richland Springs. By no means is it that. This is a celebration and recognition of greatness. I am not sure I even fathomed how amazing their last 24 years have been. Along the way they have earned a Texas state record eight championships.

Y’all keep saying the last time they were 45’ed was 1999. Strawn beat them in 2009 70-22. I know I went to school in Gordon but I believe that’s 48points.

That being said. It is pretty impressive what they have done.

Out of curiosity, how many wins has Richland Springs had since 1994?

Just thinking they played 10 games a year (and they've done more than that) it would be something like 200-39, which is 80%.

Says a lot about the commitment of the kids, coaches, school and community. I seriously doubt there is any thing in the water supply in the community that would lead to that (or if it had, some wise promoter would be selling expensive Richland Springs bottled water on the market today). That's a group of folks that when they take the field, they walk on knowing that they are the better team and expect to win every night. And the opponents take the field knowing this could be a long (or in six-man terms, short) night.

I've been married since 1994. I know that I've had more than 39 losses to my dear sweet wife since then. Heck, probably made that number just this week. In fact, she's got a better winning record than Richland Springs. But that may have to do with the level of competition she had. Jerry and the Coyotes had better competition.

Richland Springs last loss by 45 point rule 70-22 in 2009 to Strawn.
8 state titles in a 13 year span from 2004-2016. 1 before Division split first 2 D1 championships and
5 in DII in a 7 year span from 2010-2016. 8 state titles ties a record for Texas football with Celina(1 championship was a co-championship with Big Sandy) , Katy and Southlake Carroll. All 8 titles with the same head coach.

Good catch. Somehow overlooked that game... thanks. Was writing that thing after midnight last night...

There’s a few losses missing in there. Not to mention the forfeit of a few games for playing ineligible players in ‘95...I think that’s when it was. I know Maddox got his 200th win against Richland in ‘96. The score was 38-36. Prior to 2000, I don’t think Richland made it to the playoffs more than a couple times. No doubt they’ve been dominant the last 17ish years.

wow, you are right. I am looking at the 1996 season and I am missing the entire week 10. Hmmmm

Also, I am not counting any forfeits from the UIL, just what was actually played during the '95 season. I believe they only had to forfeit their district games there.

Thanks.

This was the 09' state quarter final in Early. RS spreadback, Coach Burkhart's son, went out with a leg injury. I thought at the time Strawn would have probably won that night anyway but probably not by 45. Loosing their best player demoralized them, understandably. I've seen it happen before.

Also... since 2003, Dewaine Lee at Strawn is actually 3-2 against Burkhart and Richland Springs, with each meeting coming in the playoffs.
