Veezy, I think that tyler St has a chance to get to the big game but they won't win it. Two of your old team mates have rings and that may help the team in general if they get to the big game. Some people may not like me saying this but when they play big games coaching is their down fall. I seen them play cristway two years ago the coach would not adjust his pass D and that one kid Christway had ate them up in the second half. They Brenham on the run that same year they would not make adjustments ran Hunt to death Brebham just stack the line. Brenham kick a field goald near the end of the game that year, Tyler St. did not rush, I ask an Asst. Coach what was the deal he told me the coach was afaird that they were going to fake it. I latter was told that the coach did not knoew the rule that you caan run a block field goal back. Maybe this will be their year.

Hey Astro55, I was cruise'n through some of the post on this subject and I was wondering..... Does Tyler Street really lack coaching in big games? I know this is a football site, but didn't Tyler Street when 2 or 3 "State Championships" in the past two seasons? I just was wondering if those games and track meets that they won consisted of a lack of coaching....

Yeah im wit cajun on this one.. Tyler does not lack coaching... 2time defending state champs in Basketball and the defending state champs in track.. 3 rings??? i dont think you can say they lack coaching

Coaching, first of all I was refering to big games in football. and if you will read my post I mention that Tyler St. fail to adjust in big games. The coach they have is a good coach but he has a hard time with big games. he , in my opinion get tunnel vison. 2 years ago against Brenham, he ran hunt to death Brenham just stack the line and stoped him. He had a lot more talent on that team then just Hunt. 6 man football we all know about the spread a wepon he did not use as near as much at the talent that he had to run it.Before he became he 6 man football coach at tyler st. he took the 11 man teams to the playoff several times but could not win the big game. His last year in 11man he had good talent with an outstanding QB the QB got hurt they did not win a game he left Tyler st when he came back two years later the school was over run with talent. Like I said this may be his year to win it.

Sorry I forgot to comment on Basketball. First of all the coach that was there when the team was still 2A build that team all the Srs Tyler St had last year play for that coach. Yes they won two titles first in a dist that coul not even give them a game closer then 20 points then in 1A very few schools have mmore then 2 players, Tyler St had enought talent that they could won with no coach. they had 5 startes 3 made All state the first year they won 3 made all state the second year they won. Most people don't know Hunt in my opinion is a better basketball player then football. Their first year point guard was an outstanding AAU player . They had a 6'5'' center, how many 1A hteams have players over 6'2 that can play. All of this talent was coach byanothe rcoach when they play in 2A. Track, last years Title would not have been won if the Reg. High Jumper decided not to go to the state meet. Tyler St got heir man in he came in 6th place tyler st wins the meet by one point. Real coaching in track comes in the sprint relays which is so important in Tx because of double points. They could not get the stick around with out DQing with all the speed they had. Once again that meet was all o the back of hunt he won thw Shot and the Discus 20 points right there. Talent will win tracks meets. about 6 years ago are longher the two twins from Rolett and 2 other giirls won the 5A state meet, by the way the two other girls only ran on the 4x400 relay. Needless tto say on of those twins was in China during the last Olp. Talent people Talent.

Im not taking their state title or down grading it, Im say they did most of it with talent not coaching Christway had a good Track Coach a young man who ran track in college and is still part of the record 4x 100 relay team in 2A. Christiway didn't win or lose the Track championship because of lack of talent , but lack of enought talent.Their two relay teams were will coach and they won. but no throwers are distance runners not enought points.
For the last time Im saying that their coach can not win the big game in football, not because he is not a good coach, but maybe he just chocks in big games.

He may get that monkey off his back this year by getting to the big game, but most of us know being Brenham will be hard. But just to get their will be a step futher then He ever did as a football coach.

You guys wanted to know about basketball and Track I gave you my opinions why he won those Chanpionships. Once again Im not saying that he is not a good coach, even though looking at his staff may leave a lot to be desired they look allfull young.

I dont know Astro, it sounds like you are down grading their championships.. I heard that they won state and sisnt even get the stick around on Two relays, which means that they didnt even have to have the relay teams... if they had have place in one of those the relays that so called high jumper wouldnt have even mattered, right or wrong?... Real coaching? Relays? I heard that before that Favors guy got back over there to Tyler Street, they didnt win anything,so I guess that talented blossumed just in the nick of time for the Favors guy...o yeah, who was that guy who was the track coach over there before Favors got back, I dnt remember hearing alot about him and winning anything?

If they could have won with no coach,how come those same guys that were there before that other coach returned didnt win anything? just food for thought..... I heard they beat up on some 1a,2a,and 3a schools also in basketball that year, without that Aau player... Sounds to me this guy is pretty heated about something...

Cajun, they were 2a , then their coach back then is now coaching at Mountain View college.. the Asst. coach , that coach left tyler st. and went to teach in public school.. Tyler St. went to the regional finals that year, the team that won state beat them in the finals the other final team was also from their Dist. There is a big drop off between 2A and 1A.

Cajun, you are right the AAU plaer played only a few games the second year which would be last year. I can only remember them beating one 2A team and lost to several Public schools team in a Tour. At Crandal or Kaufman. I may be wrong and I can only say this I love basketball and go to a lot of games both Private and Public, and I remember that team being together , when I watch them play at Bishop Noland. I make a mistake in the last post the coach who took them to Reg. was the coach who went to public schools, the coach who is at mountain View was the coach the Secon year. If you are a fan of private school sports you will be able to see the diference between 1A and 2A.

If I am not mistaken, those teams like Lakehill prep, and Frisco Legacy played those same players after that mountain view coach had left and they ran them out of the gym,the same teams that had beat tyler st. prior to that....That basketball team from then also beat some public schools that were 3 and 4a... so i dont think that the drop off between 1a and 2a had anything to do with it,I have kept up with those guys and those guys were pretty good last year...

Well Cajun, it looks like you know a lot more about Tyler St then I do> Please name the UIL 4a and 3A teams they beat. lakehill and Frisco. are not 2A power houses in Basketball. This all started about football when I said in my opinion they were out coach in the playoff and that their coach has a track record of not winning the big game in football, both 11man and 6th man. I never said that he was not a good coach, I did say that talent won the basketball titles with or without the coach. Like I said before this may be their year to get to the big game but if they do Brenham will win it all. This is just an opinion, I have nothing against Tyler St. just another school that I like to watch play 6man football. So you ask where do I get my facts look them up in DMN sports are go to tapps and the other big Private school record ( which I can't think of now) web sight.,

Either way you cut it, Coach Favors is a really really good coach. A lot of coaches don't win the "big game" because only one team wins every year in that classification for that sport. I have coached against him many times, and yes he's had great talent but you also have to know what to do with that talent. Don't understand where this is coming from but there are different variables each year as to why a certain team/coach doesn't win. maybe the other team you're playing just beats you on that given day. just my opinion!

But until he wins the big game and proves he can win it a lot of people I have talk to will thinkl the same way. Good luck to Fulton in the playoff, you guys have got a proven coach now support him and he will bring you a contender. glad to see a Girls program starting over at fulton.

Yes the Tyler St. coach did win coach of the year and he deserved it, after all he won two championships. You'all are missing my point. First let me say that he is a good coach because he gets the team to the big game. But for some reason he always seems to be out coach in the big games.This has happen both in 11 man and six man in a lot of peoples opinions.Mabe this year if he gets to the big one he will win it. If they play Brenham who I think will get there, and loses that will be understandable, if by some chance they get to the big game and play another team and they are favored and they lose then they are back to squard 1. they win, he gets the monkey off his back.
