Biggest Surprise So Far?

Sands appears to be rising. That was a tough D1 district they were in before going D2 this year. I think that prepared them and I expect they will win their district and have an extended season by at least a couple games. Maybe more who knows.
Completely agree. Sands has a great freshman & sophomore class. Pretty sure they went undefeated while in JH. They will be tough for awhile.

For me it has to be Three Way...

14 consecutive losses dating back to 2022

The Braves have opened up 2024 with three wins and have their first 3-0 start in school history!

Who are some of your positive surprises thus far?
Not only are they 3-0 but they haven't allowed a single point to be scored against them so far. That's more impressive imo than just simply winning these 3 games.

Not trying to take away from a good thing but look at their schedule. What's suprising about it? They been picked to win by 45 every week.

I'm close to being an old man, so from many years of experience, when you are dealing with teenagers, it doesn't always matter if you are picked by 45 to win. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. It's hard to win a football game at any level, because you are dealing with unpredictable humans. From what I can see, it's smart scheduling from a program who wants to change the culture. The first step is to see the fruits of your labor and gain some confidence in the new program. They seem to be doing that, and handling business. Props to Three Way for scheduling smart and overcoming the first hurdle of a culture change. Keep chopping!

Why you quoting me and posting this? None of what I said contradicts anything you said and vice versa. I just said it's not surprising. If you're surprised that a team ranked 100 teams higher than their competition is winning those games then cool but I'm not. They supposed to win these games and nobody should be surprised when they do. They're playing a weak schedule. I'm not judging, I'm just saying. The real surprise will be when they make the playoffs this year and for the record I think that's what'll happen.

Ok. Cool Hook Em!

I have two really! Booker would be my first one, the way they throw the ball is insane; putting up crazy stats through the air. Miami
Isn’t so much a surprise but how they are winning, spreading the ball around between multiple guys, and more than a handful. Looks like the new coaches are starting to figure out their personnel.

Prairie Lea last made the playoffs in 1944. So not the first time but before most of the kids’ great grandparents were born! ;)

Thanks. You got me to digging even deeper. The archives on the site here on the team page only go back to 2002. Best season in that stretch to now was 7-3 in 2016 but 1-2 in district. I thought I know they played 6man in the 1930's.

So, I went to lonestarfootball.net. Ah-hah! No games from 1960-2002. But they did play from 1931-1960. I clicked on 1942, 8/1, no playoff games shown (did they have 6man playoff's then?). For some reason I didn't notice the 11/0 1939 season, when I clicked on it a little while ago it shows they were All district games, beating Dripping Springs and Weimar 2X each, 6 shutouts (2 were forfeits), last game was 38-30 over Weimar.

1944 shows they were 3-0 that year so I hadn't clicked on it. When you do it shows a full schedule, but only 3 games with scores out of 9 total games. All but the last one district games, looks like they played Buda, Dripping Springs and Weimar 2X. It shows scores for both the Weimar games and the last one. A 66-0 victory over Yancey in Bi-District!

An interesting aside that turned up was from the 3rd game of 1938 to the through 1939 and 1940 seasons they didn't lose a game, went 25-0 (per OBK).

PRAIRIE LEA, Tex. — (/P) —. There Is no way officially to determine the state champion In schoolboy six-man football, but where is there a better record than boasted by Prairie Lea? The Indians have won 24 straight games, starting in midseason of 1938, scoring 888 points to 171 lor their opponents. Robin Galaway, who has been the coach for two seasons, says: "We have never pushed a claim lor a state title, but believe we are entitled to it if any six-man team could claim such." Six-man football goes no further than district championships, There are more than 150 teams In 23 districts. It js the state's newest scholastic sport but Texas already has more teams than any other state in the nation. Prairie Lea tied for the district championship in 1938 and1 won it last season. Wednesday night ' the Indians play Lytton Springs at Lockhart for the title. The latter, having lost one game, could gain only a tie for the championship with a victory. Prairie Lea was recognized last year as the strongest six-manteam in south and central Texas. This year Prairie Lea could not meet a team for Ihe state championship since it has used up its limit of games under interscholastlc league rules—that Is, it will have after Friday night. Next season, however, Galaway says he will be glad to schedule the strongest teamc in the state for his non-conference dates. There are 48 boys in school and 17 are out for football. Last season Hans McCartney was chosen on the first string All-American six-man team by a national magazine. But the team doesn't have all the records. Galaway himself has a winning percentage no one can top. You see, no team coached by Galaway ever has lost a game.

This was the 25th consecutive win for the Indians. The last team to beat them was Martindale in 1938

Like all you great fans I'm partial to my own. But I gotta say Rankin is looking good and getting better. Those Devils have been knocking on the door for years. The program is good but with a great addition of Coach Kieth, these Devils are prime to make another run at the Playoffs. A few weeks from now Buena Vista and Rankin will battle. That will be a great game! Yes there's still a lot of football to be played and can't wait to watch em. Fight em fair boys!
