Pyron (merged with Hermleigh in 1947) school today

Same here with the old Pyron school.

Going back to Talpa-Centenial, until the consolidation with Mozelle, the jr. high and high school went to Talpa and the grade school went to Centenial. May be why the building looks a little less abandoned.

Ok, so now I’ve got to make a 200 plus round trip to get a picture of a school ( if it’s still standing ) to add to the discussion!

For Texas, that is just a quick trip....

Just an update to this post. Medina and Union Hill are now both back in 6 man......

Hmmmm....
Irion County, Leakey, Nueces Canyon are all back in 6 man now

Centennial is a beautiful lodge now. Watched a friend get married there about 10 years ago. Before it was turned into a lodge, it was used as an alternative high school for students in the area, mainly Coleman I think.

I was perusing the net tonight and it occurred to me to search for Targe Lindsay, the coach for Garden City from 1951 to 1956. He coached the Bearkats to their first district, bi-district, and regional championships in 1955. He left GC at the end of the 1956-57 school year for an administrative job in Midland and then in 1960 moved to California where he spent the rest of his life. He died on October 30 2018.

Interesting little data study to determine which active 6 man school has the most years in the sport. I blame it on Leman......

School Years 6 man
Paint Creek 74 1944 to present
Blackwell 72 1938- 1943, 1952 to present
Oglesby 72 1940-1941, 1945-1952, 1956 to Present
Paint Rock 69 1949 to present
Jonesboro 69 1949 to present
Sidney 69 1949 to present
Buckholts 68 1951-present
Gustine 68 1950 to present
Mullin 68 1950 to present
Benjamin 68 1939-1940, 1945-1957, 1965-present
Iredell 65 1953 to Present
Ira 64 1954 to Present
Walnut Springs 64 1955 to present

OBK - Blackwell played some games in 1947 of 6man, which should give them 74 seasons now correct? And since Paint Creek did not field a team last two seasons theirs is 73 seasons correct?

I guess Paint Creek should read the memo about hiring a few teachers who have several football playing children. Might help get them back on the field again.
