6 man History

Out of curiosity, when/where were the first six-man private school teams? I'm thinking you'd have to hunt through the archives of the TCIL (Texas Catholic Interscholastic League), which may have been the first private school league in Texas.
Price Catholic in Amarillo was in a 6 man district with Groom, Happy, Adrian, Booker, and Lipscomb.

They were also playing 6 man in 1938.

Brownsville St. Joseph was in a 6 man district with Sharyland, Los Fresnos, Stuart Place, El Jardin, and Santa Rosa in 1940.

Re: List of most years playing 6 man. Here’s a few questions.

How long has Woodson been playing 6 man?
Did they ever play 8 or 11 man?

Same questions about Utopia.
Woodson played 11 man from 1930-1958, 8 man from 1959-1973, 11 man 1974-1975, and then 6 man since 1976
Utopia did nothing but 6 man from 1949-1963. When the 6 man district they were in went 8 man in 1964, they dropped football.

Oh how I wish the Tolar Rattlers still played six-man. The people moving from Fort Worth to the country forced the change to 11 man in the 70's. Now, the overflow from Granbury has them at AAA. The growth is mind blowing. The only thing connecting the Rattlers to six-man are those Golden Footballs in the trophy case.

You guys are 3A now? Man, I knew you were growing due to proximity to Granbury, but that is ridiculous! I moved from Acton in 1997 and you were still a mid-size A 11 man school.

Is Joan Slaughter still teaching there? We knew her well, great lady. She was one of the first women to graduate the Naval Academy.

Yeah Old Bearkat it's crazy. They enroll about 800 now K-12 when back in the late 80's when I was attending there sometimes wasn't 300 total. I'm not sure about the Slaughter gal. Back in the day we played Lipan, Huckabay, and Strawn in basketball and Santo and Perrin in Football. Now its Breckenridge, Jacksboro, and Eastland. Just doesn't seem the same.

Centennial. Consolidated with Talpa in 1958, and then Talpa-Centennial with Mozelle to form Panther Creek in 1986.
