6 man History

And now, if FH wanted to break into two schools, both of those schools would just be under the cutoff (around 90 a piece). Weird how enrollment a change over the years.

An interesting little tidbit that is not only 6 man history, but for all forms of American football. I found it in one of the space fillers on the August 19, 1976 Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

Football helmets go back to the scarlet turbans worn by
Rutgers College players in the1870's

At the Fort, numbers are as follows: 121 at the high school and 20 at early college campus at Fabens ISD. Still a little high but you never know.

I found out that Marlin has news paper archives at the library from 1890.

Can anyone remember what years Lott or Rosebud played 6-Man? I hate to have to dig through this whole post and all the other posts haha.

Also I notced on the ghost schools on the LSFNetwork that Rosebud and Lott are both missing their mascots.

A lady I work with graduated from Lott in 1971 and said back then it was the Rosebud Panthers and Lott Lions. When they Merged in 1971 they became the Rosebud Lott Cougars.

Back in my home state of Wisconsin, the West Bend School District wanted to have two smaller high schools although most similiarly sized cities at the time (1960s) had only one high school. They probably had a 1000 kids in each school (probably less today).

So they built two schools, West Bend West and West Bend East, next door to each other. That way, they doubled up some of the functions (ie, maintenance, food service, some academic programs and some athletic facilities).

And in 1962, Throckmorton beat Allen 54-0 in a regional playoff game . . . now Allen has a $60 million football palace and Throckmorton plays 6-man football! BTW, I saw my old coach who coached the team to that victory at Homecoming this year, right before he passed away . . . Tommy Boyd, may he RIP.

But since we're on the subject of 6-man football history, somewhere I have my father's old football jersey from McCauley High School from that inaugural season in West Texas . . . if I can find it, will take a picture of it and post it on the site. He played end/guard and remembers catching a pass against Sylvester and getting hit so hard he pulled a "Wrong Way Harrigan".

Did you ever find that photo?

Has anyone ever heard of Krum Texas ever playing 6man? They are up by Denton. I was in our supply room today and had stopped to ask one of the locals what he knew about 6 man football ever being played in Falls County. He didn’t have anything that he could remember, I mentioned Lott but he couldn't recollect. He did mention a town called Krum, said that his brother in law had went to school there and they had just enough boys to make a 6 man football team and they had a sub for basketball.

haha
