Great coaches know how to read each kid and know they are all different. They know how far to push them and also motivate them..

I totally agree...........BUT..........

you gotta have talent.

EXAMPLE.............AND PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY............

The defensive coach at Crowell now that came from Spur (had a stint at spur, woodson, moran).......and from what I've been told about him, is his motivation is the same now as it was then.......
He's always been VERY HIGHLY MOTIVATED.....
So why didn't Spur, woodson, moran go as far as Crowell did.

I TELL YOU WHY..............TALENT...............#14, PARSLEY.............YOU BETTER HAVE A KID LIKE THAT ON YOUR SIDE..........

Another Example............
Richland Springs, THE TYLER ETHRIDGE SHOW HAS BEEN GONE FOR SOME TIME ...... AND HOW MANY TITLES HAS RICHLAND SPRINGS PLAYED FOR SINCE THEN......
True, They've made the playoffs several years after TE has left, but along with coaching, YOU GOTTA HAVE THAT SPECIAL KINDA KID(s)

RS has actually played for 3 state championships since the TE show....and won all 3...more than you can say for 90% of all sixman programs in the state. Granted Reeves and Bush were upper echelon athletes (not on Parsley's level, but upper echelon none the less). Definitely not a part of the RS bandwagon, but a person still must respect their accomplishments nonetheless...and for sure they haven't been successful with just one player and then the program goes to pot...(Tharp, Hicks, Hicks, Ethridge, Burkhart, Reeves, Bush, Salinas.............)

Crowell has a chance to repeat but like somebody said earlier they have to go through the meat grinder of the west. One team I feel like who is going to be #1 next year is Borden County they are returning a lot of good players. Heck a lot of their key players are sophomores. Yeah valley has beat them the last two years but I don't see that happening again!

I say let the Crowell Wildcats enjoy their second title in a row. Let May enjoy making it back to the big game for the second year straight. And let's worry about all this who is going to beat who and who is going to state business when it gets a little closer to August. Merry Christmas to our six man family and a Happy New Year!

OK Monkeypalm, it's a little closer to August.

How does everyone feel now that the Crowell Coach has moved elsewhere, and taken his son with him?

I think that was a big blow to the small chance of a 3-peat. BC is still my preseason #1.

No, I know that coach very well.

I was confused, disregard my previous post. Sorry about that.

I believe that you are pretty accurate in your predictions. Calvert may not be quite as high as number 2, unless they get an experienced and quality coach to come in.

Richland Springs is due for another State Championship this year. They have been off for two years now, which ties for the longest period of time for Coach Jerry Burkhart to go without winning a State Championship since he has been coaching Six-Man football.

If the Parham kid (freshman this year) comes on as he should, along with the other great returners, I think that this could actually be the first year of another 3-peat for him!

Another sensational thought came to mind about the Calvert situation. Can you imagine the outcome if Coach Vance Jones were to go to Calvert? Just think what would happen with Coach Jones' fundamentals and basic skills training combined with the talent of the Calvert team. I think "Unstoppable" might be the word to describe it!
Probably wouldn't happen, but just what if?

Or what if.....
Mike Reed, who is in 11 man now, would take the calvert job. His dominance while at Rule & Throckmorton was great.
I could see Calvert winning SEVERAL state titles with him at the helm....
