You know a little 17HMR is really a fun gun, i love shooting it. I'm looking at the 17 Super Mag right now, for varmits and such, but just cant decide. Smokeys little 223 may be a better choice. Any thoughts ?
I absolutely love my 17hmr, it is really good for pickin off little varmints at 50 to 100 yards. High velocity, low drop, no kick. Its my favorite rifle to shoot.
I have killed many hogs with the 17. Shoot 'em they drop and squeal then run off, i find them the next day with the help of our circling freinds. Have dropped a big boar in his tracks but it must be in the ear..

Now I'm really confused on which gun to get. There's more hogs than varmints. The Coyotes take care of the varmints pretty good.

LOL with the cost of guns now I can't afford both of them Mr Bearkat. I tell you what you buy one for me and I'll buy the the other, deal?

As soon as I get done paying for overpriced college education for youngest son, overpriced mortgage on house, and overpriced taxes here in Illinoisy.....

Whoa I feel bad for you. That's a lot of money going out. I need to buy you a gun like Smokeys and Westexas. Lord I know I can't live in Illinois.

I love to go out or go out of town but when we pull into that driveway, I'm ready for bed too. Sounds like you had a great time. You remind me of grandparents. They had people over all the time and entertained or they would go to friends homes for dinner. I remembered something Smokey, some people pay others with big smokers to smoke their deer meat. Something to think about for some extra dollars.

If I made extra money Obama would just take it...... That's why I retired, got tired of supporting the government. Not drawing social security yet either.

OFB the salt gun will work on the hoppity cute little pack mice. One year I took some Christmas Candy (milk chocolate balls) to the lease. The guys get up around 3am and are getting ready to go out. my son Jerry puts or tries to put a boot on and theres little chocolate balls in each boot. My husband shakes his boot and his had chocolate balls in them also. Same for my tennis shoes. We never heard them on their mission. I laughed so hard I cried. Then it dawned on me "how many mice are in here to put that many balls in our shoes.

Smokey why aren't you drawing what your entitled too? That SS belongs to you. You worked for it all your life. Granted it doesn't help very much but that's why our generation worked, and part of it was yours, moms and dads SS when they retired. That is cheating you and your wife.I pray and hope that they get the fraudulent people off SS so the ones who worked their tails off get what they deserve. No taxes on SS except the ones that SS takes out of your check.

I know that the O has cut off many people from unemployment. Now they fight you tooth and nail. So the deserving people don't get help when they need it. I know a man that drew unemployment for 2 years and played in a band. My husband cut him off as being our friends after many talks to him about how wrong it is. He was a fully able'd man. The unemployment office called my husband (which our old friend) thought he would lie but he didn't.. He told them the truth and gets a phone call from the Old friend cussing him out. He told my husband that he had lost 2000.00 plus. It was sad that he was ripping needy people off (like moms with kids). Can't take a thief.

Westexas you got that boar in the head. My husband shot a boar in his head and he spun around 7-8 times then went down. But we have hit hogs and they took off too. That's not fun hunting dead hogs in mesquite trees and cactus.

OFB you did good to teach your daughters to shoot. Here I go again. On the news two girls were at home alone because their dad worked nights. They were upstairs when the alarm went off and grabbed the gun. One daughter killed one of the boys and the other got away. They did find out who he was and as far as I know, he's still in jail. Fort Worth Dallas is the worst place to live where kids in their 20's think they can just steal for drugs are whatever. Now they watch and anyone watching this house knows when my husband is gone or at home. So much has happened here but he won't move. The house is paid for. He doesn't want another mortgage.

Another thing that happened to us is I had my triple bypass and was feeling bad. I thought maybe some nice fresh air would help. This was about 2 am. I pulled up a chair to the back door and just sat there. The house was quite and DSH asleep. I started hearing something walking on the leaves. I knew it couldn't be a cat because the leaves had a big crunch to them. I walk out the back door and the 4-wheeler is gone. I yell for my husband so he checks the 8 ft chain lock fence. He found where they had cut each link at the back of the yard and his 4-wheeler had been pushed to my neighbors back yard. The thieves ran when I yelled. Praise the Lord I got up and Praise the Lord who ever tried to steal it was too ignorant to put it in neutral.

Well Mel it's going to be muddy at your lease for a few days............. We just got back from up there and they had a nice soaking rain. Maybe even got some tank water. Didn't hear anybody quote an amount but as an old rancher told me once, " I'll take a rain or a bull calf any day".
We had close to 3" here in San Saba county.

Smokey DSH didn't go hunting either. He was exhausted for his work at Waco. Then the drive home. He has rested all day so I catered to him. He was going hunting in the morning and take the 4-wheeler but he will come in dressed in mud. I think he's enjoying me and the dogs. Maybe during the Christmas Holidays he will get to hunt more. We got a good rain and I'll never take anything over the rain. I remember the drought well. I kind of hinted over guns this weekend and he said they are good guns and I asked him if he would use one and he said he has enough. I didn't want to go pay a bunch of money for something that would go under the bed. Now dangit I don't know what to get him. I tell him what I want but I have to guess on what he wants.

Socks make a good gift. Really. I like the wool ones from bass pro shop. Redhead brand. I wear em year round. They are cushioned and feel good on my feet.
