Unpopular Opinion

Everybody has fatigue injuries, I promise we’re conditioned fine. Body’s wear down from the contact more than the running.

I am very aware of why teams are missing games but there has been more than enough holes in schedules to refill.

I’m telling you this would benefit the kids, I am speaking from experience.
I don’t know where you coach or how long you’ve been in the business, but I believe it would be a good idea if you got with a few of the successful coaches in the game and discussed conditioning and practices. That’s going to take care of most of your injuries. Not reducing the number of games played. IMHO

Weights and conditioning! CW Williams had his teams running forty forty yard sprints by week one at the end of every practice. He started with 10 during the first week and gradually built up on a daily basis. Weight training prior to and during the season helps to keep players healthy too.

We didn't NEED to come off lol. Had 9 games my senior year. Begged and Begged for our coach to find another game. Thats why I disagree with you. We wanted 10 games but Fort Elliot forfeited the season. There's no such thing as "fatigue injuries". We were never fatigued nor injured. 9-12, we had one legitimate injury. 9th-17 players, 10th-12 players, 11th- 14 players, 12th- 13 players. Less games are not necessary
Agree. We played 10 games my senior year and I missed a total of 4 plays that season, due to a slight stinger, soon as I could feel my hands and arms I went back in. We were so well conditioned that on a Wednesday we told coach that we wanted to run cross county, never practiced it and the school had never done it in the past, and we left on Saturday morning and went and won the district meet. Then, still without anything but football practice, went to Regionals (the morning after our biggest district rivalry game) and had 2 make state. I’ve watched MANY 6man practices & games since I’ve graduated, over 25 years ago, and there’s very few teams that have that kind of conditioning anymore, or so it seems.
