Why is it that one side of the playoff bracket is loaded in Both D1 and D2 and the other side is just a bunch of kinda good teams slapping each other trying to make it to state just to end up runner up when in all actuality they probably aren't any better than the 2nd round team from the other side of the bracket.

I mean they could mix it up just a little it's kind of like taking the train vs an air plain. One side is so inferior it really isn't fair to call them 2nd best when they clearly aren't. But yet they will get that title just because they made it to state when they never really had to even play a top contender because all the top teams were on the other side of the bracket.

Are you advocating a four-team playoff based on voting? The bracket is lined out before a snap takes place; sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. Golly, it's done the same in all UIL divisions....

If we do that then who will come up with the seeding? Will we go by rankings? Because, no offense granger, the #2 team, Crowell, just whooped up on the #1 team, Ira. To be that far off shows the risk of putting the wrong team in the wrong spot, or even adding the wrong teams to the mix to begin with.

The way it's done now is the way it's always been done. Sometimes you just end up with brackets like this.

Some kind of playoff seeding would be sweet. Get all the coaches to rank all the district champs and runner ups. Have the best champ vs the lowest runner up. Then just fill them in. That would make it nice, so all these big playoff games take place in later rounds. So many good teams are going out in round 2.

So a team in the panhandle could have a first round match up in East Texas? The current bracket uses geography to set the bracket.
Using Granger's Toy, there's only 5-7 teams really stand a chance
Why bother with all these other teams...?

I would like to see it done different. But it probably never will. The format I came up with uses the current regions, but mixes it up every year in the semifinals, to allow the top teams (sometimes) in the finals.
2015 - just like it is now, region1 vs reg2, region 3 vs reg 4
2016 - reg1 vs reg3, 2 vs 4
2017 - 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3
2018 - start over, 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4
2019 - 1 vs 3, 2 vs 4
Continue with the 3 year cycle forever and ever
Do it for all sports and all classifications.

As far as competitiveness, no need to rub it in that the west is dominant in d1, have been for a few years now. But it always shifts, always!

THE EAST WILL RISE AGAIN!

In what alternative universe are you getting your info? Ira isn't even #1 in their district, much less in the state. Current rankings have Ira at 16 and Crowell at 3.

I like the idea of a four team playoff. It just seems to me that one side of the bracket has been stacked for years now seems to me the UIL will just start handing out participation awards to every team just so they don't hurt anyone's feelings.

The rotating regions in the semis makes too much sense.....never happen because of that....
It's not uncommon in any class / division to have one region with the two "top" teams. It is not common.
CK, do you count two division champs in each class as "participation ribbons"? 6 classes / 12 champions

I count participation awards as everyone gets a little piece of the pie. Of course there will be one true champion but wouldn't you rather watch state game between a true 1 & 2 team in stead of number 1 vs number 24? It seems to me that the way the UIL picks the region is almost as rigged as the college football playoffs.

The system now is a good system. The only wrinkle that would be kinda cool is mixing up the Regions for Semi-final games....Region 1 champ vs. Region 3 champ, and Region 2 champ vs Region 4 champ.

Sorry, didn't see this when I first replied. Good idea Shad.

Rigged? I knew what the 2015 bracket alignment would be in February 2014. UIL district alignments may sometimes be slightly off, but rigged.... I. Can't. Even.

I take it you are not familiar with this axiom....
For God so loved sports that he gave us the upset. Whosoever believes games are decided by rankings shall surely one day be thoroughly vexed.

Amen to this! They have watered it down so much to me it just not the same as it used to be!

The UIL may not be able to determine what team is good and not during the re-districting but I'm sure some one has an idea of what teams need a confidence boost. For an example Benjamin of all teams made the playoffs that doesn't seem right to me when is it Patton Springs turn??

I kind of get what caprock kid is trying to say? I mean D1 west is loaded take a look at the teams you got Borden County, Happy, Crowell, Hermleigh, Valley, Sterling City, Garden City. To me any of these teams could 45 the top team from D1 east. I mean how is it fair that D1 west has to go through the odyssey journey and D1 east goes through cupcake lane? I'd rather see two teams from D1 west play each other for state then somebody from the east making it.
