AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League will convene at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to determine the eligibility of student athletes and discuss alleged UIL rule violations.

A schedule of tomorrow’s hearings follows.

UIL State Executive Committee Meeting Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League issued penalties to coaches and schools for violations of UIL rules and handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes Wednesday.

The State Executive Committee accepted the findings of Edcouch-Elsa High School’s investigation into allegations of rule violations regarding non-school participation; the findings are being taken under consideration for possible further actions.

The State Executive Committee suspended Coach Jeff Nelson for the first two non-district games of the 2013 football season for violations of rules regarding participation in athletic activities during the school day while on probation. The Committee also added three years to the probationary period for Nelson and issued a second public reprimand.

Coach Bryce Overstreet from Denton Ryan High School was suspended for the next three district games for being ejected from a contest while on probation. Overstreet was also issued a second public reprimand and three additional years probation.

In other action, student athletes from Houston Jersey Village and Amarillo High School were denied their appeals for eligibility. It was determined that the students did change schools for athletic purposes.

An appeal for varsity eligibility from a Lubbock High School student-athlete was granted after it was determined that the student did not change schools for athletic reasons.
