Rocksprings

Just read on Twitter that Carl Padilla is reporting that Rocksprings will be playing six-man in the Fall.

If memory serves, this has been hotly debated within the community.

I watched their meeting about it on Facebook when it happened. I remember thinking then that it really sounded like the school administration wanted to do it and that it was possible that they could lose football all together if they didn't make this move. They were very well prepared, and had a lot of folks there to provide information (including school administrators from other schools that had to make this same decision). I hadn't heard anything about what was decided, but I'm glad to hear they decided to make the move. I hope it was a majority decision from folks within the community. Good for them, and good for the kids!

I remember seeing a team from Rocksprings, Miles, and Merritt Bland at the state tennis tournament back in 04 and 05, when 1A and now 2A were combined. I wonder what the other schools enrollments are now besides Rocksprings.

Merritt Bland is 237, while Miles is 150 per UIL enrollment numbers.

Rocksprings had great kids and good athletes. I coached there in 2010. They could have gone 6-man back then but chose not to. It is a great community. If they will let the coach coach and stay out of the way look out. The big question is if?? but I have seen the but??? Rocksprings is one of those teams that can come in a make an impact in their first year. They are known for speed and quickness and in 6 man speed usually trumps size. Jayton is the only 11 man team to win state in their 1st year of 6 man. Rocksprings can make a splash, and it will be a great place for coach that wants to create a winning program. I will not be surprised to see them compete with Gordon very quickly. I guess they will be outlaw next year?? Once the are adjusted they will contend. I am glad to see them join the 6-man community. They will enjoy competing week in and week out. They love their sports. The old 11 man teams of Medina, Leakey, Nueces Canyon can be reunited. I wish them the best!!
