Richland Springs

In the words of former NFL receiver Randy Moss [straight cash homey] while it would be great to see some of these teams matchup the cost may not allow such games unless they some how schedule them a few years out in order to raise the funds needed for travel and hotel etc.. I think in the future some of these games will be played....

A division 2 team playing another team that they hope that they will playing in the playoffs during the regular season is not smart. IMO
Terry Crawford at Abbott does it alot, but they are division 1 so that might make a difference. Travel is not the issue either ,because he already said they were playing Gorman, which is a good 2.5 hr drive. We know what the reason is.

2.5 hours??? Why that's practically next door......

Just because I have to. We're playing Gorman in Hico - 62 miles. Abbott has about triple our budget (and that's a guess), so that's a terrible comparison. Our football budget is $2000. When there's only 48 kids in our High School, funding for trips is just not there. This is why we were having to appeal our district when Apple Springs got put in our district. Not dodging Apple Springs, but couldn't financially justify a 2.5 hour drive. I have to answer to people above my pay grade on travel expenses. There's very few highly competitive schools within an hour drive that's not on our schedule.

We need aweek 2 and 7

Thanks
Here is your chance Mt. Calm. Your always talking that you would love to play the top teams.
Hey MexEng, don't you know, Mt. Calm and Richland Springs have played each other the last two years in a row.

Its not impressive to play a bunch of killers every week, its actually not smart. You have to be strategic in making your schedule so you actually have a team by district.

I bet Coach Satcher would play the other RS school lol just giving you a hard time coach. People want to judge your schedule but tell them to go get a degree and a job and then they can bark.

You're fine. He just cracks me up because he lives in a world of puppy dogs and rainbows, where everyone plays, and everyone has that money tree in their back yard. Got four teams on my schedule that will be in the top 15 of their divisions next year, and somehow that makes my schedule weak. But like I said before, he has nothing to lose, so he can say what he wants. And much like Trump, if he says it enough, he believes it to be true.

Mexican Englishman, I don't get why you continue to grind this axe. I know Coach Satcher and I can tell you the last thing he is, is an "I" or "Me" guy. He cares deeply about every player that plays for him.

Also, if you have any clue about scheduling, you'd realize that in six-man or HS football in general, its a year to year situation a lot of times. Teams you schedule look good on paper the during the spring, but you don't know if the coach leaves during the summer or the teams best players leave for some reason once school ends. Even the opposite applies, a new coach moves in or a school picks up a great player or two; Its a crap shoot.

Coach Satcher doesn't need me or anyone to defend him, but he is a coaching fraternity brother and I will come to his defense. He's about as solid of a man as you'll find and if I weren't coaching, I'd wouldn't hesitate one bit to have my son play for him.
Your right I don't have a clue about scheduling. But what I do know is, don't post on here you would love to play the top teams, but due to schedule being made before you got there you have to play who is scheduled. Now when you get to make schedule you do the same thing. Abbott being the exception this time. All I know is,if I am trying to build a top ten program, the Penelopes and Avalons are coming nowhere near my schedule. Coaches know which communities and schools will be strong each and every year, if you don't you do not need to be scheduling. The fact is, most of the coaches like to play it safe, get their wins, get to the first round of playoffs, keep the community happy, administration happy and live in their safe program. Sorry, if you want to build a top program, you have to get get out of safe, and push yourself, community and staff out of their comfort zone. That is why in the sixman football world, there is a huge dropoff in a top 4 team and a top 10 team.

ME,
there is ABSOLUTELY no proof that if you play "tough" teams in your pre-district games that it will make you better or build a program! Totally false!

I agree, which must mean it's a really good point, because I don't agree with Bill on ANYTHING!!!

Coach Burkhart, you might want to re-title this thread and begin a new one.
And put it in the proper location while you are at it. Generally the ones in the "games needed" topic don't get hijacked. Not saying it doesn't happen, but kind of hard to gripe at someone for hijacking a thread that is not where it should be in the first place.

Englishman,
That would be a 2.5-3 hour bus ride one way. (5-6 hours travel time total) Most schools fans and admin would prefer not to travel that far in the nondistrict or playoff game. Englishman will say "meet half way". Not many people want to give up a home game two years in a row. I imagine Coach Burkhart and most of the sixman fans would rather this thread get back to finding RS a game.
I was trying to help find them a game. Mt. Calm has always said on here he doesn't hide from top teams, and would love to play them. I would love to see more teams play a preseason schedule like Dallas Covenant did a couple of years ago. That was impressive, and I think they traveled every week. That is how you prove you are a top team.
How many other teams in the state have scheduled BOTH UIL state champions? Or do you just have a problem with the one? Abbott, Division I state champion, on Mt. Calms schedule, RS, Div II state champion, a highly likely Mt. Calm playoff opponent. What's the problem here?

Mt. Calm will not play Richland next year. Not sure they will make playoffs. If they do ,they will start and finish with Calvert. This will make the admin. happy because they couldn't afford the fuel for another week of long travel. This makes Satcher very happy because they offer him a new contract and he gets to talk for another year that he fears no one, and will play anyone. { Within a 15 mile radius}. But don't worry Satch, your good friend Mexican Englishman has started a GoFundMe account to help prove your doubters wrong. With all your supporters, I am sure we will raise enough money to fuel that bus so you can travel as far as your imagination will take you. No thank you's are in order, I am glad to help a fellow dreamer. I will be in touch.

MexEng, If Mt. Calm had played this last year's Calvert team, they would have beaten them almost as bad as Jonesboro did.
