Pup's Playoff Primer

Since we are just a week away from the second season, I figured it's time to do a little prognosticating. This is my guesstimate at the bracket. I understand the three Wild Cards on each side of the bracket could go anywhere except the top game in each half. On the top half of the bracket, I don't see any of the Wild Card teams making it past the first round. On the bottom half, I see the top two Wild Card teams (Orange and Freddy) with decent chances. With that being said, here we go......

Longview vs.
Granbury - neutral site

*WF Christian @
Lubbock CTK

*Brownwood @
Lubbock Christian

*Plainview @
WF Notre Dame

Bottom Half-

Seguin vs.
Lake Jax - neutral site

*Freddy @
Heath

*Orange @
Castle

*Selma Believers @
Alvin

* = Wild Card team
I'm betting TAPPS will take travel into consideration when assigning Wild Card teams. In the top half, TAPPS could switch WF Christian and Brownwood, but everything else is pretty well set. Same thing in the bottom half, Freddy and Believers could go to either Alvin or Heath.

To me, the top half looks fairly weak. I see Notre Dame and Granbury in the Semis. The bottom half has some intriguing match-ups. I don't really see any gimme games. I could see Seguin, Freddy, Castle or Alvin all possibly playing in the semis. District 4 looks tough with three teams that have a decent shot at playing in Zephyr in December.

Only thing I see that could be wrong, is the fact that Plainview Christian will not make playoffs. Instead Magnolia Legacy will be in. Plainview has 5 points right now and with a win will bring total to 8 points. Magnolia has 10 points already, so win or lose against Orange they still have more points.

So, I think they will have to send someone from district 4 to the North. I was thinking that Freddy would be that team, since they are the closest? But who knows!!!

My projection bracket

Longview
Granbury NCTA

WF Christian**
CTK/Kingdom Prep

Brownwood**
CTK/Kingdom Prep

Fredericksburg**
WF Notre Dame

Bottom Half

Seguin/Castle Hills
Lake Jackson

Magnolia**
Heath Fulton

Orange**
Seguin/Castle Hills

Selma**
Living Stones

My count ... and I'd have to go back to the TAPPSter chart (and perhaps it's been updated) is that Plainview Christian has 9 points (5 points for a win over UIL D1 Lubbock Harmony and 4 points for a forfeit win over UIL D2 Lazbuddie) and and will play El Paso Jesus Chapel (0 points). Plainview wins and they have 12 points and finish third.
Magnolia has 10 points and I think they play Orange Community, a game you have to think Orange is favored. They would then stay at 10 points and be in fourth place.

My guess is that TAPPS would choose a 3rd place team with 12 points over a 4th place team with 10 points.

But if Magnolia wins, they have 13 points and even if Plainview wins their game and has 12, Magnolia gets the last spot on points.

Now as of 1045 am on Thursday, Plainview has not entered those points on TAPPSter so if the folks at TAPPS want to be mean ol' blankety-blanks because the school officials didn't do their job, that could happen.

District 4, usually thanks to Freddy, seems to make a point of having at least one team playing in December. Could happen again this year.

TAPPS sent an email out that you do not get points for a forfeit win or a tie.. So that takes them back down to 5..

Okay, that changes the game quite a bit. Magnolia is in, Plainview is out.

In regards to the wild card teams, Wichita Christian did beat Lubbock CTK during the season 57-34 in WF. I think the Stars would still have a great chance winning that game in Lubbock. But, I'm a wee bit partial.

I think the winner of the LKP/CTK game will get WCA and the loser would get Brownwood. Should be two close games.

From how I read the brackets, and with four of the wildcards coming from the southern districts (4 & 5), somebody from the south has to go north. My expectation is that Freddy Heritage is going to be that team. Would it be Freddy vs Notre Dame in first round, I hope not. That's a second round game.
