Playoffs

ACHS got past a VERY good Boerne Geneva team to win the Panthers' 2nd state championship in basketball in the last 3 years. Final score was 63-47. It sure felt like it was a LOT closer than that - and it was several times during the game. Geneva can play. Congrats to the Eagles on another great season!

I took over 500 pics. I have a lot of work to do in processing them over the next couple of days.

Saw in Angelo paper where WV shot 30 free throws and Crowell 7. Was not there or talked to anyone just thought it was odd there was that big a difference. Then saw where WV beat Graford pretty handily. Must have good bunch.

There he goes with those awesome pics again.

Thanks. I actually got to meet a few folks from this site at the game. They figured out who I was since I had a camera in my hand and a Panther blue shirt on. LOL

Coach Helton was there. He was nice enough to introduce himself to me after the game. Of course, I knew he coached for Covenant, but I had Geneva on the brain after an exciting championship game, and I started talking to him about ACHS finally getting to play Geneva in football next fall (like he was their coach). Coach Helton, it was great to get to meet you, even if I'm a little slow. :)

Naz and WV have caught each other in the first round at Austin. So...one sixman school will be in the finals. I was ready to be greedy and hope to have both sixman schools in the finals.

Do either one of the other two even play football?

Lone Star Football Network shows a school called Cumby that plays 1A Division 2 and just down the road is a little hamlet called Miller Grove that played football back in the 40's. One could deduce that they consolidated into Cumby Miller Grove. As for the other school, Laneville, I don't see them listed as playing football on the Lone Star Football Network site.

looking on max preps it shows two schools, Cumby Trojans that play football, and Miller Grove Hornets that are a basketball only school. Maxpreps has them both in Cumby, TX. Y'all's guess is as good as mine.

I'm pulling for Water Valley to win the State Championship. They've got a good crew of players and play so smart. Not much size, but a lot of experience. I'm not a Wildcat, but I'm wishing them the best! Best of luck!

Maybe they're really Miller Grove and people just call them Cumby Miller Grove. Like you see Lamesa Klondike, Lenorah Grady or Roscoe Highland.

OK, a little research uncovers this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_Grove_High_School_(Texas)

Yep. Miller Grove is one of those commie pinko non-football schools......

Cumby was at one time, but they started playing 8 man and then went to 11 man in the 70's.

Markf, sorry for the confusion, the "other two" I was talking about was Laneville and Miller Grove. While typing the post, their names escaped me. (That happens more often than I like to think about) The only school I could come up with was Roxton and knew that wasn't the right one.

Heard Strawn was gonna start playin Volleyball next yr?
I don't know. They aren't in the new realignments that were published this week.
http://www.uiltexas.org/files/alignment ... 014-15.pdf
There's not a 1A so they grouped 1A and 2A together.
Guess the number of 1A schools playing is dwindling. Good ole' UIL.
District 8
De Leon
Evant
Gorman
Gustine
Hamilton
Hico
Lingleville
Mullin
The Gatesville Messenger reports this morning that Oglesby has voted to play next year and that they will petition for entry into one of the nearby districts. All schools in that district would have to approve letting them join.
Maybe Strawn will do that as well?

As a employee of the Dallas ISD
I go to Dallas Madison quite often
Anyone who knows Dallas knows that Madison
is in the heart of sunny south Dallas,,Fair Park
is within walking distance of this old School
My Mom 83 yrs of age walked the stage at this
school in 1948,things have so much changed
These Kids at Madison don't have alot, but what
they do have is Basketball, they won state last year
and are one game away from back to back titles
These kids smile and have something going
If not for basketball i "Hate" to think period!!
With that said,Let's go Trojans!!!
