Uh....say what ?
Did I miss the first ten pages of this thread?
No...Tobyvan got pissy and cursed out Granger because his team wasn't ranked where he wanted it to be. He has since edited his original comment and changed the name of the thread.

I like the "quote" feature on the message board, it is useful in the event someone goes and edits or deletes their post as they cant do that to your quote of the post in your post...just a helpful hint as you navigate the message boards

I'm not always right nor do I claim to be but saying something then deleting, shame on them. Say it stand behind or don't say it at all.

The best part is other ppl are a lot more upset than I am... I'm not btw.

My comments were that what started as a question/attack ended up quickly into a weird diversion.

As I try to explain to ppl about the rankings, this is not a real simple thing to understand when you focus on only 1-2 teams. Very quickly those 1-2 teams have opponents, who have opponents, who have opponents... and so on.

If you re-ran every single game right now, based on the current rankings, (787 total), the system would be 771-16. That's 98.0%. Six-man is a high variance game. Lots of scoring swings. Lots of variability when a key player is injured or out. Case in point would be Campbell v. Fannindel. Two very different results in two different weeks. How do you rank one higher than the other and maintain 100%? You cannot.

If you want to learn more about rankings, there are plenty of models to choose from:
ELO - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
Microsoft Trueskill - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrueSkill
Bradley-Terry - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley%E ... erry_model
heck, you can also create a easy Excel Solver using least squares (although you can only have 200 variables with the free version of Solver, but this is easy for the NFL)

Good gracious TobyVann, do you think that this post may come up in a future job search? Any competent Sup or Principal will find this and cross you right off the list. I just hope that the Rocksprings job opens up soon, for your sake.

The rankings matter to Independents. Having spoken to Granger a few times, I believe, without a doubt he takes them seriously, as would anyone with pride of accomplishment in their work product.
So while most of you are right about the playoffs ultimately deciding the “rankings”, with Independents,
Granger has the final word.

.........and that is why he gets paid the big bucks...........

And I just thought this thread was off topic from the first post (not having seen the original).
But speaking of mules and movies, it's been a while since I saw Three Mules for Sister Sarah.

I think the sites and the work associated with those who have developed them tend to promote the sport for all concerned. If Guru disagrees he can delete my post. It's his site.

Thanks for the links. I didn't know the "lone star football network" existed. Through it I found out that the 1979 Blum Bobcats lost in the regular season to the eventual state champions Milford by only 2 points. I remember my dad telling me a story about "back in his day" regarding that team, but I never knew if he was telling the truth or if his old age had screwed with his memory. Nice to have some confirmation on the story, that website is really well put together and informative. It's not as nice as this one though of course lol!

Your more than welcome. If it provided a link to your Dad I'm more than privileged, follow up with him if you can. Thank Shad for the site I think, I've never met him.

It's still hard for me to believe Stawn once beat Stephenville 68 to nuthin, or Bridgeport 62 to nuthin.
Even if it was 11 man 90 years ago.
