Hot Pepper Fans?!?!

Just ate the first ripe one. I nearly fainted. Hotter than heck. 2 hours later my mouth is still burning a little and very numb. The first 30 minutes were so bad... was eating sour cream and spitting into the sink. My wife just shook her head at my stupidity.

That's man sized! -- what about the flavor or was the sear to fast to notice

I have a buddy who is selling roasted hatch peppers on the weekends here in town. I didn't have the guts to buy the hot, but picked up some this weekend and last night made some green chili, the colorado version with pork chunks. We are having it tonight for dinner. It has a bit of a kick. He said the super hots come in this week or next... No way I could handle that. I am freezing the others and waiting a few weeks to make some other styles.

Chili - Just another reason to wish for warm weather.

Salt will help - no kidding

The first crop strung on fishing line drying in the sun. :)

Give them 6 weeks or so and I will send the dried pods with their seeds. I plan on deseeding the others so I will include some extra seeds in addition to the ones you will get in the pods for all my sixman friends. :)

Yes, I did glove up however I still felt a slight burn through the rubber gloves. The yellow dish-pan ones not hospital gloves. When I was stringing them up and and slicing through them to speed up the drying process, it was burning my eyes and my throat. These things are pure evil. I LOVE IT!

UPDATE!!!!

Here is the first batch almost dry... sitting in a hot (heated by the sun) oven pan.

Second batch, strung, sliced open and starting to dry

Finally, the last plant with pods still on it.

I have to wear safety glasses when stringing and slicing them... the oil that goes into the air is brutal. The family dog ran inside and hid... she had been right besides me as I started cutting them open.

Oh, I will send divide up equally all the dried pods I have so far to those you have expressed an interest. I will keep the seeds inside so you can grow your own next summer!
