Exercise...by Smokey...

Westexas were over 50 so if we don't do a little bit of what RJ is saying, our tickers won't work as well. sigh, I had a triple bypass after I quit working. Sixmanmadness the hospital pinned me down. My DSH wanted me to leave. He was afraid I would go and see my maker. I told him to tell the nurses we were leaving. In 10 minutes my room was filled with nurses, doctors cardiologist all telling me stories. Some scared the life out of me for a second then told me the chances of not having the bypass. So I stayed had the bypass and it hurt (bad). Then I found out my kidney numbers weren't right so they held me captive till the numbers were right. Heck they saved me from a massive heart attack, and dyalisis. But.....................I understand how you feel about hospitals.

Everyone must be cooking today. With all theses DSH'S (or mine and a neighbor and Smokey). When it comes to a man going stir crazy they sure are helpful in the kitchen. Our neighbor brought us some chili in one of those little plastic bowls with a little plastic lid. I talked my DSH into Roast and Stew tomorrow. Yeah got me out of the 3Alarm Chili. Karma hit me right in the nose when the neighbor came knocking. He gets stew tomorrow. It's good to have good friends.

We had no corn meal for corn bread, so last night the DSW made cheesey garlic rolls to go with the pot of beans. You know those rolls like you get at Red Lobster?

I never made it to the beans. I foundered on the rolls. I may have developed an intolerance for gluten. Those delicious rolls turned into over-filled lead balloons about 20 minutes after hitting my belly. But I kept going back for more.

If we had bad weather like this more often, I'd be president of the 400lb club.

Well we have two guru's here:

I believe the good Lord gave us a exact number of heartbeats
So I anit wastin' none on exercise

The other that more is better:
"Getting stronger, as well as getting bigger involves nothing more than getting your body to a point that you can lift more today than you lifted last week. Reducing your training max and working steadily back up to it- with more volume - will make you both stronger and bigger over a years time than anything else I've found.
That is, assuming you are eating enough. Not eating enough to grow is the biggest reason people don't grow. My simple secret to eating more is this: drink a pint of chocolate milk immediately post workout. Then for the next hour post workout - eat anything and everything you can cram in your mouth. The fattier, sweeter, carbier, the better. Train till you can't walk, then eat until you almost puke. You'll get bigger and stronger. Guaranteed." RJ

I'm in the camp of Moderation: Exercise is good for you if you do it in the right way and the right amount...otherwise you could be hurting yourself more than helping..

Smokey this is your post....what say you!

I think you misinterpreted my post. I was replying to the Kid - who wanted to know how to increase his bench and his squat totals.

Weight training for both size and strength has been a hobby of mine for almost 20 years. Some folks hunt and fish. Some folks grow hot peppers. I pick up heavy stuff - and put it back down.

I think diet and exercise - especially given the sedentary lifestyles we lead now (as compared to the folks even 50 years ago) - is the best preventer of injury and disease. But like you say - in moderation. Just getting off the couch and walking around is far superior to melding into the couch cushions.

For my hobby, yes - more is better. Go big or go home. Grip it and rip it. yada, yada, yada. But the principles of resistance weight training and common sense nutrition incorporated - in moderation - with an otherwise sedentary lifestyle have proven to be the best preventive medicine on the planet.

Particularly in women, if resistance weight training was incorporated on a consistent basis beginning as late as age 35, osteoporosis would be a rarity because weight lifting prevents the leaching of calcium from the bones.

I believe we are in agreement that people of all ages and sexes should exercise...many problems can be prevented by proper diet and exercise...

I know my brother was able to get off his Insulin and high blood pressure medications because he lost weight, watched what he ate and exercised regularly....

I got exercised cursing at all the idiots up here who forget how to drive in a modest snow. It took me almost an hour and a half to do a normally 30 minute drive to the office.

Amen Pop, Smokey gets the award for today!!!!! Did you find the deer Smokey? Was it shot by a hunter? Hope you found it.

No physical exercise yesterday. Went to bed with a screaming tension headache from spending the day trying to get a square peg to fit into a round hole.

It's going to warm up this afternoon...go out and do something...even if it's walking around Wally World...If ya can't get out do something in the house.....We want to see ya at the Championship Game...

I'd rather walk five miles in the snow for my exercise than go to Wally World. I tell my wife we are misfits when going there because we have no tattoos and we don't wear our pajamas or house shoes.

MsB we all love you thats a fact, your post are tons of honest fun to read. But really you need to make your sweet tea in smaller portions, if you make it in 5 gallon jugs it tends to ferment....just sayin'
