Consolidation of Woodson and Throckmorton

Yep, l said that and there are plenty of FACTS in the written record and actual history to back it up.
The trouble with some folks is they don’t take the time to Research anything they talk about. Breckenridge
is not the only one exposed for this kind of recruiting, just one of the more infamous ones. Some people are uneducated, others are simply ignorant and chose to remain so. I know a little bit about this since I was born in Breckenridge and lived in Woodson and Throckmorton County. So boys before you make yourselves look even worse, do a little homework. Right now your ignorance is showing.

Did they run you out of Breckenridge past Throckmorton all the way to Woodson because yew cudn't play football werth a shXt or because your an axx hole? Or did a cedar chopper just bring his wife to the big city to produce you?

Yer not possibly an unacknowledged cuzin of Jerry Tubbs from up in Throck are ya? My dead brother-in-law, a former Breckenridge Fire Chief, a linebacker there in the 60's, said he heard Tubbs was kind of an a hole too when I asked him about him once, in spite of his success.

Shirley your not related to the great photographer, and football player from Throckmorton.

I've not read the last one. Why did his daddy move them to Oregon for his senior year?
The weather there is nicer in the summer but Big bob moved back.

BTW, who was Emory Bellard? Could he have done what he did without recruits from the suburbs of Breckenridge? Woo Woo Wooster. Could that wishbone thing be adapted to six man? An up back with two fullbacks slightly behind him on either side? Seems to me run, pass, pitch options abound, with the right players... But obviously, I'm not a Coach.

Well some of you do know a few things.
Yep, Bellard was in Breckenridge, but before that he was in Ingleside where they averaged 66-6 per game and only could go to bi district because they were class B. From there to Breckenridge, then he went to San Angelo and then to Texas and made Darryl Royal famous and eventually to Spring High School near Houston where he finally retired.
Yep, ole Jerry Tubbs, the famos Dallas Cowboy player, player coach and finally coach took the recruiting train from Throckmorton County and Woodson to Breckenridge and then Oklahoma, he was an Academic AND football standout at both schools.
Ole Bob was a much better basketball player than a football player while in Throckmorton. After he joined the Cowboys he would return to Throckmorton with a bunch of Cowboys in tow and get my father-in-laws bird dogs and take everybody quail hunting. He lives a few houses down from my brother in Georgetown now.
No, I guess I don’t know much about that country.

There's a story in this novel if you haven't read it about bird hunting west of Cowtown by a Cowboy defensive lineman and friends, including a fictitious Dandy Don (played by Mac Davis in the movie). In a time when there was a newly constructed Dallas - Fort Worth "Turnpike". Maybe Peter Gent hunted with your father in-laws bird dogs.

Then there's the movie. Mac Davis is no Dandy Don but Nick Nolte is pretty good a Peter Gent.
