Coachiing Contract

Is it odd to be in March and our head coach hasn't been offered a contract? After the record setting season he had in football, he turned around and did the same thing in basketball. He has also started a baseball program and anyone who has been reading this forum knows how he turned around the grades and mentality of our kids. Why has he not been signed? I know other schools have whooed him, but he's still here. Should we just relax or should we prepare to watch an awesome young leader/coach hit the road?

Not sure how it is in your neck-o-da-woods, but my wife teaches in the Seguin ISD and teachers have not yet been offered their contracts for the upcoming school year. Probably will happen fairly soon after spring break, but if others in your school have their new contracts then I'd be worried. But whadda I know.

It's still very early!

Schools just had their first round
of state testing last week.
I'm sure that's where their attention has been
for several weeks prior.

If you're talkin bout
that coach at The Buck,
my guess is that he'll be there as long as he wants.
Their revolving door policy
should have spun out of that place
when their last Supe. and Princ. split.
jus sayin'.

Usually it goes jan are for superintendents, feb for principals, and march/ April for teachers. And it is based on when they have school board meetings.

Everyone is correct on here. I appreciate the concern, but Buckholts Administration and school board has been very good to me and my family. I have no intentions of leaving and they have made no indications otherwise. I will know something the fourth Monday of the month. Thanks again for the kind words and again, it is my intention to be here until my son graduates from Buckholts. I've already coached at the larger schools and have chosen to be at a smaller school to have an impact on my school and my children. Considering my son is only in the first grade, I should be here for quite some time if they'll have me.

Not very often I get to address a question about myself. It felt very odd not talking on here about players.

Coach ... Isn't this kinda like reading your own obituary in the papers?

Remember that teachers are no longer under the 45 days until the school year ends to notify for non-renewal. The last legislative session changed it to 10 days before the last day of instruction. A school could wait until May.

Since the law change that hermit project spoke of came on board, most districts have begun to do teacher and coach contracts in April. We used to do it in March due to the 45day thing and let me tell ya if you didn't give someone a contract, that was an awkward 45 days.

10 may be too short but 45 was too long. Most coaching jobs don't even open up till May and are not filled till June...Then there is a second wave in early July. Finally there are the desperation August jobs. Most districts are not taking people down to the last 10 days.

Not being in admin.
I would usually yield to those who are
but,
the "Most coaching jobs..." statement
seems strange to me
only because
there have been several dozen jobs posted already.
I wish I could start a gig in March or April
just to get a feel for the area
and then that would allow a jump start
for a program that would include summer workouts.
It's ludicrous to expect a coach to do miracles
if noone has the team working on something, anything, during the summer.
The districts that I've worked for
that are still looking for coaches in July...
well let's just say,
hmmm...
isn't there a saying about if you can't say something nice

Several coaching jobs have been opened. Tioga, Lometa, Gordon, Coolidge, ect. I realize that most schools wait until March or April, but what is to stop a coach from testing the waters in February or March, rather than hope he gets a contract later? I'm not as nervous now as I was before cause I heard there debating the length of a multi year contract. But I still think schools should get smarter and lock their coaches up before they secure something else. I would have gone insane if they would have lost this guy!!!!! Hoping a school doesn't swoop in and get him before they get him signed. Now I made myself nervous again.

The meeting is tonight, so I guess we'll know in about 6 hours.

I will be back in Buckholts for several more years. Contract came in and it was a multi-year deal. Great day for my family and I.

I'm guessing you signed it real quick ... Congrats!

Buckholts may have gotten the better part of the deal, tho ... kinda like what my wife tells me each year at "contract renewal time" (aka anniversary).

I have heard that the state is recommending to all schools to hold off on contracts until may. Not really sure why.

My guess is that until our folks in the lege actually come up with a budget (you know, unlike our Congresscritters and Dear Leader haven't done in four years), well, it may be better to wait until that gets done especially for those district hiring hundreds or thousands of teachers.
