In the 70’s and 80’s Cherokee would probably be dominant over RS. The 90’s IM betting was split pretty evenly. No idea about anything earlier than the 70’s. That might help to make it more even than most would think. My buddy is recovering from a surgery so I can’t call him up and ask him but I know for sure Cherokee was powerhouse in the 70’s. In the 80’s RS wasn’t very competitive and Cherokee was definitely competitive . The 2000’s I’m sure RS has dominated.I want to say RS and Cherokee, but it may fall under the same category as Follett and Miami. I dont know the overall records of those two teams though
Give you guys something to do on Fridays now. They started playing in 1930 and played each other twice a year, once in non-district and once in district until the UIL told them they couldn't do that any more, sometime in the 1950s. There wasn't a game played in 1942 because of World War II. They didn't play each other from 2004 - 2018, except in 2014, they played a 6 man game in Robert Lee and in 2015, they played an 11 man game in Bronte. There is also a championship belt awarded to the winner, signifying the Coke County Championship. This has been a bitter rivalry, with the 2 schools disliking each other. The towns also dislike each other, although not as much now as in the past. The history behind that is that the County seat was in a town called Hayrick. Sometime in the 1930s, people moved out of Hayrick, some to Robert Lee and some to Bronte. There are different stories about why, but mainly it was because of a water shortage due to the drought. After Hayrick was almost a ghost town, there was an election held to name a new County seat. From my understanding, it was a bitter election and I've heard stories Robert Lee won by one vote, although I can't confirm that.Bronte vs Robert lee have been playing each other for over 100 years most games 11 man Robert lee started 6 man 2004 Bronte started 6 man 2018 overall record Robert lee 51 wins Bronte 48 wins with 4 ties records since both playing 6 man Robert lee 7 Bronte 1 both are coke county schools 12 miles apart
