Lifegate's schedule may be worst than UTs'(we'll maybe the aggies at kyle field could be a game).LCS got to get up for a 3rd seed team ( which in my mind, could mean 2 weeks of lazy practice) and then roll into an undefeated Brenham only to possibly come out of that game to meet Tyler street. I think the state champion is on this side of the bracket. But true champions rise to the occasion..want to be in the big game..and want the ball in their hand. Whoever wins this side will find this out way before Moody. I hope our boys (who are on new ground) can get the vision of taking their game to the next level of perfection and finish what they started in July. whatever the final scores read..I pray all the teams play their best game and have no season ending injuries.
Brother Robert the Second, before you start knocking the schedule, I did a little checking of opponents records.
Through week 11 -- Lifegate's opponents are 46-59 (remember, 10 of those losses are to Lifegate), with 7 going 40 minutes and no forfeits (week 10 open). I like that this team is battle tested, able to go the distance and ready. Three opponents with winning records (CASA 6-4, NYOS 6-4, Town East 7-3), and one win over the defending state champions (only the third time in six years that a D2 team has beaten them; Dallas Covenant and Town East in 2006, Lifegate 2009).
Brenham's opponents are 38-53 (again, 10 losses to Brenham); only 4 games going 40 minutes and one of those games a forfeit win (week 9 vs Bellville Faith; week 10 open). Not chopped liver, but I assume that these guys still put their pants on one leg at a time. Also three opponents with winning records (Kerrville Our Lady 8-2, Bryan Allen 8-3, Austin Hill Country 8-3).
I'll give Brenham the edge on strength of schedule, but let's assume that these two teams meet in week 12. There's no doubt that the prognosticators would give Brenham the edge on paper. But games are played on the field, not on paper.
We will be tested. But so will Brenham, and I doubt their coaches are going to skip practice that week and have team pizza and ice cream parties.
Oh, by the way ... my bet on the two best games in Round I, D2 are tonight:
Town East at Duncanville Christway (Azle Christian field). I pick Christway, but would not be suprised if Town East pulls an upset.
Fred Heritage vs Houston Texas Christian (Bellville Faith field). Heritage, maybe ending early. But probably not.
Wait till tomorrow night; then we'll start talking Week 12.
